[SOLVED]GPU problem again

Hi.

There is lag and slowdown even when hovering the mouse. The fan constantly turns on and off at boost speed.

nvtop

No GPU to monitor.

nvidia-smi

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

You can't mix 580xx and 590 driver packages .

remove those 3 packages. replace them with nvidia-580xx-settings, opencl-nvidia-580xx and  libxnvctrl-580xx .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?

Re: [SOLVED]GPU problem again

cuda and xfce4-sensors-plugin deleted too.

error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: removing opencl-nvidia breaks dependency 'opencl-nvidia' required by cuda
:: removing libxnvctrl breaks dependency 'libxnvctrl' required by xfce4-sensors-plugin

nvidia-580xx-settings, opencl-nvidia-580xx, libxnvctrl-580xx installed and so vulkan-headers.

Going to reboot

EDIT: Same. Since no GPU loaded, CPU is doing all the work.

nvidia/580.119.02: added

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dynami … ld_modules
But

local/nvidia-580xx-dkms 580.119.02-2

is dated, https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nvidia-580xx-dkms
=> update the AUR packages

I thought pacman will update all and also see some message in the forum about it. But it appears not smile Maybe its changed, idk. Now updating the AUR. Should i try to `sudo dkms autoinstall` after update ?

Re: [SOLVED]GPU problem again

The package update is supposed to trigger dkms, (only) otherwise you'll have to manually build the dkms package.
pacman has *never* updated AUR packages (nor other foreign packages)

Re: [SOLVED]GPU problem again

AUR update took more than 6 hours. I tried to ctrl + c and do it again. I saw some `failed` `abort` messages on there. Should i reboot or cancel the process and/or delete its temporary files then try again ? Or just leave it and give a day if necessary ?

Which file has `yay` logs ? `pacman.log` does not have it.

Re: [SOLVED]GPU problem again

Start by not using yay, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Arch_User_Repository

Yay keeps a cache

CACHE DIRECTORY
The cache directory is $XDG_CACHE_HOME/yay/. If $XDG_CACHE_HOME is unset, the cache directory will fall back to $HOME/.cache/yay.

If there're any logs besides the stdout/stderr they'll likely be there.

Re: [SOLVED]GPU problem again

Whats the difference between doing it manual ?

You avoid yay bugs and actually understand what's going on and what stage actually fails.

Doesn't look like there's a log file so you'll have to provide the yay stdout.

Fwwi, building gcc14 might take a moment and possibly run you OOM.

Re: [SOLVED]GPU problem again

"… |& tee -a output.txt" and several TEs allow you to copy the scrollbuffer into the clipboard

Sorry, I didnt understand this.

Nobody knows what stalled things was rebuilding the nvidia driver, if yay was updating/rebuilding gcc14 (exists in your cache) that will simply be resource intense.

Re: [SOLVED]GPU problem again

clutter-gtk is probably required for https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/cheese ?
Similar errors point to conda/pip installations getting in the way.

It's however entirely not related to the problem at hand (nvidia drivers) so

You can not tell from yay's output which package failed? Arch User Repository Installing and upgrading packages covers using AUR without a helper.
