Hey everyone,
I started using linux a year ago. Until a few days ago i used debian but it got boring and i wanted a deeper understanding of linux
and switched to arch.
Thanks to all the maintainers and people writing the wiki, its awesome that all of this is avaliable for free.
Wish you all the best.

Hey all,
Thomas here, jumping in from Norway.
Went all-in on Arch yesterday on my daily driver, no safety net, pen in ThinkPad E16 and go.
I've wrestled a little with DisplayLink drivers for my Lenovo dock, but somehow I have a working setup.
Anyways, hello!

Hello all.. I'm Rubben from Indonesia. I was a windows user who decided to use Arch based on internet recommendation. I want to join to this forum 'cause i want to know more information how to use this distribution, and ofc i also want to know which repo is danger for my system. Because i got some information that some packages from aur is contained some malware. Well, my main reason to use this distro just because i want to say "I use arch btw" to my collage friends LOL... Salam Kenal semuanya.

Hello everyone.
I am new to Linux, as I have been using it since the start of the New Year on my main PC. Fairly recently I decided to install Arch with xfce4 to an old laptop (which I am currently typing this out on) and so far it has been pretty smooth. I was motivated to install Arch due to how lightweight it is and because I wanted to learn more about the foundations of Linux and how it works.
I look forward to using Arch more in the future!

Hey everyone.
Been a Linux user for over 10 years by now. Played with Arch before but never as a daily driver. Until earlier this week I used Manjaro for that (don't shoot me, I also have no clue why Manjaro users would come here instead of to their own forum). However, during the Manjaro 2.0 Manifest drama decided I want to get a distro with more stable team behind it for work and such, and honestly didn't even consider anything else than Arch itself. Over the years I've tried many distro's and none of them did it for me. So I started testing Arch again on a secondary machine and got so excited I installed it on my main work laptop yesterday. Got it all set up ready for work yesterday evening, and spend today tweaking it for fun. Anyway, now that I actually use Arch daily figured I'd make an account here and say hi. I'm planning to stay after all.
Other than that, I work as security officer by trade, but officially studied software engineering in university. Also am a volunteer for a Unix user group, and on private title advocate for privacy and digital sovereignty. I also like to collect CDs and am a big Elder Scrolls fan.
I also love the Arch wiki, because I like to read documentation and instructions rather than watch videos or ask people (which is a last resort to me). Good written documentation is the best. Sadly, the amount of software with lacking documentation is too damn high, but Arch doesn't have that problem. So <3 for that. But I think you guys know how great your wiki is
.
I could write a whole Wikipedia page why "nothing to hide" is bad reasoning, but I don't have to because it already exists.

Hello, just registered to ask a fundamental question on where archlinux is going regarding a recent pull request that i would like to have clarified. Posting my question in another section, hope i found the correct one.

Hi,
I am new to Arch & Linux, Arch is my current/first Distro. I have been using Arch since early December 2025. I was pretty stupid in the beginning, watching tutorials, but after reading the wiki and documentation, it just became faster to troubleshoot/diagnose/learn issues/projects/installations. I enjoy the wiki with its breadth of content, conciseness, and relevant links. I still have a lot of hiccups here and there; trying to become more adept.

Hi, I'm completely new to linux and this is my first time try. I was aware before installing arch that this was going to be tough for newbies but wiki helped me a lot.

Hello! Figured it made sense to say here before I start posting all my issues /j.
I'm a full-time software developer who uses .NET tools and Windows, along with whatever else my small company needs me to learn. I'm hoping to get Arch set up on my laptop for personal use, mainly just to play with, but also hopefully to a somewhat functional capacity eventually. I've used Ubuntu and Debian before, so I'm not completely green to Linux.
I'm also hoping to explore free some engineering software, choosing probably whatever offers the least path of resistance haha. I'm looking into FreeFEM right now, although it was a hassle to set up on Debian.
Finally, later today I'm going to try and fix my Wifi... for whatever reason I'm not able to ping anything. That's for a different thread though.

Allo everyone!
New arch linux user here. In maryland in the USA. Ended up installing it on two old PCs I had:
-asus eeePC netbook where it boots directly into a word processor (FocusWriter) to use as essentially a typewriter with no distraction.
-Lenovo Yoga 710 with awesome desktop and only firefox so far. Hoping to make it my daily driver. I love how fast arch is! I created a script that I must run on boot up to activate network adapter and log into wifi to save speed on bootup. When windows was installed on this thing the fan was terribly loud but now that I have such a minimalist OS it is so nice and quiet.
My goal with the linux transition is to de-Googlefy my life and remove connection/reliance on as many data hoarding overlords as possible. As well as have some fun learing something that could help my friends and family do the same.
My first OS was OpenSUSE in college. Then I moved to Ubuntu. Now here I am.

Hi all, returning after a looooooong hiatus.
First joined linux in 2006, Arch in 2010. Unfortunately, circumstances required me to turn to the dark side in 2016. 10 years later, I am able to begin my return.
Currently have re-installed Arch on my original ASUS ROG Laptop from 2011 (was a desktop user prior to that), and have also converted my old Surface Go 2 tablet (out of the box experience except for cameras - but only in Arch, cameras work in Fedora live ISO - but that's for another thread later on before I pull all my hair out) .
Finally got my most recent ASUS TUF laptop still on that 11th piece of "work" from Redmond, just working through all my data and software/games to ensure I can still access everything before blasting it with the Arch laser as well.
Cheers.

Though I've been into computers since the early 90's, I haven't touched a PC in almost a decade so I have the unique advantage of not being used to Windows or any other OS before coming to Arch. Basically Arch and KDE is all I know, and windows is mysterious and difficult to me.
I did spend a grand total of two days on Mint as my first step into Linux before quickly realizing that wasn't going to satisfy my need for control when it comes to my devices.
It's been a month now on Arch and I have managed to do everything right so far but I have only taken the first step on this journey. I think that is because I am tech literate, honestly interested, and in this day and age we have FAR more access to information than in the past. It feels like cheating to be able to ask a fancy search engine (commonly known as AI) questions which all of you didn't have the luxury of.
I hope I can become a productive member of the Arch community.

hi everyone!
First experience with Linux was in 2008 when my brother who worked in IT installed Ubuntu on my laptop after bricking numerous Windows installations via sailing the high seas!
Two things led me back: 1. I've used a computer for my entire life with zero clue as to how they truly function. 2. I am sick of monopolies & corporate entities making decisions on how I utilize my computer.
I have finally settled on Arch after trying numerous distros, the philosophy and social aspect of this distribution is exactly what i'm looking for. A lot of the discourse around Arch is "it WILL break" and "you WILL have to fix things yourself", and to be honest, I prefer that. I WANT to know how to fix my machine when things don't work. All in all, the distro hopping was a lot of fun, and i'm happy to share my personal experience gaming/tinkering with all of the OS's I tried.
I look forward to being a contributing member of the community, and I'm stoked to be here! Feel free to reach out for anything, i'll help out to the best of my abilities.

Hey Guyss!
I finally installed Arch yesterday
My journey began with Fedora: I was nervous to dualboot Arch with Linux, because I would have to partition my disk manually. I decided to completely wipe my ssd and only use Fedora. I wanted to gain some experience with Linux and finally download Arch.
I downloaded Fedora, but I did not like it at all. I didn't like how GNOME looked and I felt like this wasn' t the right place for me. Yesterday I decided to download Arch, bcus I did not use my pc at all (with Fedora). I downloaded the Arch ISO, booted into the live environment and began wiping my disk. I was scared as hell to break something (or even brick my pc). I still managed to wipe everything and download Arch. I immediately fixed wifi and bluetooth and am now enjoying my beginner setup. I hope I will learn and of course enjoy Arch ![]()

Hello I don't believe I ever posted in here.
I've been using Linux 16 years, Arch distros in the latter 3 years of that time. I started of in VM then moved to my daily work driver, it has been working out since then. I have also worked with based distros but Arch was the first, and continue working with it. Look for forward in staying with and seeing what the future may bring for ArchLinux.
