Yesterday I ran a regular pacman update (pacman -Syu). It included a kernel update, so I rebooted afterwords. After rebooting, I can no longer get output on my primary monitor, but the other 3 monitors work fine. The update included both a kernel and nvidia driver update among other things (see logs below).
I am using an ASUS ROG G18 Laptop with hybrid (NVIDIA 4080/Intel) graphics with an ASUS USB-C dock that has 2 DisplayPort ports and 1 HDMI port. I have the built-in laptop monitor (2560x1600), two 24" 1920x1080 monitors via the DP outputs on the dock, and one 27" 4K (3840x2160) monitor via the HDMI output on the dock which is centered on my desk and serves as my primary monitor. The 4K one, identified as DP-5.2, is the problematic one. The three external monitors are connected through a KVM switch, but bypassing that does not change the behavior. The problematic monitor currently works on the same input with 2 other PCs and a PlayStation 5. I also tried switching to an HDMI cable that works on one of the other PCs with the same result. I'm fairly certain it's a software issue rather than hardware, especially given the timing, but I wanted to be thorough. I am using lightdm with awesomewm so it's X11, not Wayland.
xrandr shows that the monitor is connected/configured, but it receives no output.

I also updated the UEFI firmware on the laptop just to be safe. It is a dual-boot setup with Windows and booting into Windows 11 all 4 monitors work fine. I also attempted switching to different resolutions and disabling other monitors, but that had no effect. Nothing stood out in the Xorg logs or the system journal.

ASUS USB-C dock that has 2 DisplayPort ports and 1 HDMI port
two 24" 1920x1080 monitors via the DP outputs on the dock, and one 27" 4K (3840x2160) monitor via the HDMI output on the dock
Can you switch those around (ie. see whether the problem follows the output or the monitor)?
nvidia-utils (590.48.01-4 -> 595.58.03-1)
nvidia-open (590.48.01-17 -> 595.58.03-2)possibly
linux (6.19.9.arch1-1 -> 6.19.10.arch1-1)
but
switching to the LTS kernel and also tried both the nvidia-dkms and an older nvidia (580) driver via AUR, but that changed nothing
Does rolling back the update restore the status quo ante?

The two DisplayPort monitors only support DisplayPort or DVI so I can't directly swap them with the HDMI output (and I don't have an adapter on hand). I do have a TV with an HDMI port I can use and testing with that I get the same result, so I'm fairly certain it's specific to the output rather than the monitor.
I didn't realize there was a straightforward way to roll back the update. Let me give that a try and see what happens.

I tried to follow the instructions from the wiki for restoring to a specific date and at first I got an error that the Server option was unrecognized. I tried moving it under the [core] and [extra] repo sections which didn't yield an error, but didn't seem to change the available packages.
I was testing this further and discovered that disconnecting all 3 outputs from the dock, while the system was running, enabling the problematic monitor at a lower refresh rate (29.97Hz) and then reconnecting/re-configuring the two DP monitors, I'm able to get all monitors working. It's inconvenient, but it's a viable workaround for the time being so I'll continue doing this rather than rolling back.
I do think it's a bug, though I'm not entirely sure whether it's the kernel, the nvidia driver, or something else. I did find one interesting thing in the logs during this testing:
[drm:__nv_drm_nvkms_gem_obj_init [nvidia_drm]] *ERROR* [nvidia-drm] [GPU ID 0x00000100] Failed to get memory pages for NvKmsKapiMemory 0x000000002731ddc7What else is odd is that I'm now able to drive 5 monitors (4 external plus the built-in laptop monitor) using this method when as far as I'm aware the 4080 and this laptop configuration can only support 4 monitors (should be built-in display + 3 external). I guess either the laptop monitor or the built-in HDMI port (which I was previously not using) are driven by the integrated Intel GPU.
Anyway, I have a workaround, but do believe this is a bug and would like to identify and help fix it, but I'm not sure how to go about it. It almost seems like it's neither the kernel nor the nvidia driver (despite both being updated) as the issue persisted despite installing older versions of both. Perhaps one of the other updated packages is causing this?

The output receives no signal or is just black?

There's since quite a while been a pattern of a race condition - how do you start X11?
What if you only boot the multi-user.target (2nd link below), get a cup of coffee or a beer and then proceed to the graphical target?
I got an error that the Server option was unrecognized
Please don't paraphrase, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855
Post pacman.conf and the actual error message.

I'm away from that computer for the weekend, but will post the journal/Xorg logs as well as the attempted pacman.conf and full error message Monday. I'll also attempt what you suggested regarding multi-user.target and report back.
To answer the other questions:
- The output receives no signal (the monitor reports no signal and powers off); it's not just a black screen.
- I am using lightdm to manage X11

Here are the Xorg logs and the journal for the most recent boot (where I started multi-user.target and then later started graphical.target). The issue persisted even when waiting to start graphical.target.

I also updated the kernel and nvidia-open driver to the latest versions (linux 6.19.11 and nvidia-open 595.58.03) this morning and the issue still persisted.
I will attempt the pacman roll back again and post the full details here shortly.

I realized what I was doing with with the pacman rollback. It was obvious looking at it again; I needed to replace the existing Server lines in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist instead of adding that directly to /etc/pacman.conf. I used the following:
Server = https://archive.archlinux.org/repos/2026/03/01/$repo/os/$archI'm now on nvidia-open 590.48.01-13 and linux 6.18.13. I've added all the relevant nvidia packages as well as the two kernels I have installed to IgnorePkg in /etc/pacman.conf and updated everything else.
IgnorePkg = nvidia-open nvidia-open-lts nvidia-prime nvidia-utils linux linux-ltsEverything's in a working state for now, but I don't want to have to stay on an old kernel version forever. Perhaps switching to the DKMS nvidia variant and then updating the kernel is worth trying? All packages on my system are up to date except for the ones mentioned above so it's definitely a bug in one of those packages.

Can you disable the IGP (to avoid the indirection of the eDP since you're running on the nvidia chip anyway)?

If I disable the IGP, that means I won't be able to use the built-in laptop monitor (that's the eDP output), is that correct? I'll give that a try and see how it affects the issue.
Regarding hibernation, no, I certainly didn't intend to resume from hibernation. IIRC, I ran `reboot` (it was either that or `shutdown -hP now` and then hit the power button). I didn't do anything to intentionally hibernate/resume, though I did set up the swap and other settings to support that.
They keyboard and mouse are attached via the same dock (and KVM switch).
Are you referring to the following logs? If so, they are present with the 590xx driver running currently.

If I disable the IGP, that means I won't be able to use the built-in laptop monitor (that's the eDP output), is that correct?
Usually if you get to do that the firmware rewires the eDP to the GPU
I certainly didn't intend to resume from hibernation
3rd link below. Mandatory.
Disable it (it's NOT the BIOS setting!) and reboot windows and linux twice for voodo reasons.
they are present with the 590xx driver running currently.
Ok?
What about the others? (NvKmsKapiMemory, heartbeat and usb cable worries)

Regarding disabling the IGP, do you mean doing that in BIOS/UEFI or within Linux?
I'll follow the instructions to disable the Windows fast-start next time I reboot.
None of the other errors are present with the 590xx driver so one or a combination of those is likely the culprit. I've attached the journal from a recent boot for comparison.

(termbin.com seems to be down, so I switched to a different service)

I attempted disabling the IGP in the BIOS settings and it didn't change anything with the issue (though it did restrict me to 4 monitors which I expected). It sounds like it's related purely to NVIDIA rather than the hybrid graphics setup.
I also disabled Windows fast start per the instructions you linked, including rebooting twice for each OS.
Here are the latest journal and Xorg logs after disabling Windows fast start and with the IGP disabled.
journal: https://paste.c-net.org/PedigreeEliza
Xorg: https://paste.c-net.org/ColossalDoubted
I read through the x-ref thread and I'm not sure I'm following. That sounds like a separate issue from this, but I may be missing something.
