poor performance with 1050 Ti in X11

hi, i previously posted about this a couple of years ago here, but i return to try and actually solve the issue.

to summarize that post, under X11, i get very noticeable screen tearing. if i turn on Force Full Composition Pipeline as suggested here, the tearing is replaced with very aggressive stutters in framerate. the "solution" at the time was to use Wayland, which granted does work; however, i am returning to X11 because i would like to output to an old television set using another GPU, and doing this comfortably without damaging the set is not feasible under Wayland at this time. so, being able to have clean, performant output on both displays would be nice.

currently using LXQt with KWin. i'm happy to provide versions if they matter, but given that the issue has persisted between then and now, i doubt it. i did do a full system upgrade today.

i'm testing with Sonic Adventure with a variety of mods installed. this game released in 2004. i don't think i should be having these problems on such an old game for any reason (and indeed, this does not happen under wayland).

i find it very hard to believe that nobody else has had this problem with such a widely used card on X11 for so long, but despite that i am struggling to find answers online. any suggestions?

the first thing i can think of is maybe related to what V1del said in the previous topic:

You probably also generally do not want the FullCompositionPipeline (potentially also not triple buffering, but I'd surmise the composition pipeline to be the main factor here) since that will generally lead to fight because you're essentially compositing multiple times (nvidia compositing pipeline + game vsync and/or kwin vsync) , which is likely why you're seeing an artefact in the first place.

i don't want game vsync since that adds a lot of input delay, but if kwin has its own vsync maybe i could turn that off somehow? i tried following this post, no dice
