I'm 13 years GNU/Unix and Linux user, did many things on Ubuntu, Debian, BSD, SliTaz etc.
First time on Arch, as I intended to install a small operating system with packages I choose, no livecd.
Upon first test, I did a quick update on Archinstall through pacman, just in case.
Ran Archinstall.
Problem is;
When I select the EFI partition, I can see the option on the list "Assign mountpoint" I select it, write /boot as intended.
When I select the OS partition, There's no option "Assign mountpoint".
In hopes of it asking me later I continued the installation, killed well 40 minutes of my time, and installation couldn't begin at the end, due to root folder not defined issue.

Quick reply, I tried creating a subvolume for partition /dev/sda2, and assigned label OS and mount point '/'.
Now it's installing.
Can somebody explain if I did the right thing and why it's like this?
Or any suggestions of using subvolumes are appreciated.
Many thanks me! *self backpat*

Dunno if I had to open new thread for this but I'm kinda in a rush-install.

archinstall is neither the official nor the preferred way - but only manual
archinstall is a helper someone came up with and it became so mainstream it got semi-support
if you rely on an "installer" do the partition and package for you arch might not be the right option when you are in a hurry
although - depend on internet speed one can get arch up and running plasma or gnome in less than 10 minutes

Mod note: moving to archinstall subforum.

Thanks for the guide, I'm checking out if I missed something.
Although the installation is finished. I just had to create subvolume for the sda2 partition. FA&FO method worked just fine ![]()
Now I'm stuck in another step, although I selected initrc, it is still booting from systemd version.
Another issue is, I'm trying to install openbox as default xsession.
Sorry for complex issues, I'll open new thread when I summarize all my encountered issues later.
Solution to my initial request:
on the select menu of sda2, there's the option to create subvolume. You can create subvolume, and then you can target root '/' on the subvolume instead of main volume.
I'm marking this article as solved.
Have great day, folks..

"subvolume" hints BtrFS - which you might have got a proper reply for if you had mentioned it
when you have time to read the wiki i recommend "how to ask useful questions?"
