[SOLVED] System freezes during boot with most recent firmware (AMD)

My system freezes during boot since I just updated AMD ucode and firmware on a T14s Gen3 AMD. I tried it with vanilla, zen, hardened, and lts.

I hope other people can report this problem, too.

SOLVED: Downgrading to linux-firmware-amdgpu 20260810-2 worked for me as well. I could change the kernel command line in GRUB and do it from a shell.

The last boot message I get is "Starting Create System Files and Directories..." (and /tmp just before might be a bit longer than usual). After a few seconds, I get a black screen. My desktop environment is KDE.

It's not so easy to give log files when my computer does not boot.

Any chance your update also included linux-firmware-amdgpu? Same suspicion here about amd-ucode, but for me, it turned out to be the firmware package.

Went back to linux-firmware-amdgpu 20260810-2 and boot times were normal again. Yours won't boot at all, so it might be something else entirely, but still worth a look.

Thanks, you saved my bacon! I didn't wait for more than a few minutes, so cannot tell if it eventually boots on linux-firmware-amdgpu 20260910-1. RX 6800S here.

Thanks for posting this. I can confirm:

linux-firmware-amdgpu 20260910-1, and its DMUB (display microcontroller) firmware fails on my Radeon 680M. Every boot since shows, on the iGPU (07:00.0):

[drm] *ERROR* Error getting DMUB FW meta info: 4
[drm] Wait for DMUB auto-load failed: 3
[drm] *ERROR* Error queueing DMUB command: status=2  (256 times this boot)

Downgrading to 20260810-2 resolved the issues for me.

Same problem : boot fine, launch login manager to select session and password but hard crash when launching session.
Same solution : Downgrading to linux-firmware-amdgpu 20260810-2 (i try Downgrading to linux-firmware-amdgpu 20260810-3 but doesn't work)

Hardware : desktop with AMD Ryzen 5 7600 and AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE

Sorry but my computer doesn't crash every morning and i need it to work.... so i look the forum, find the only post related to my crash but on laptop hardware. Post a 8 response on the post to add that it doesn't work on desktop hardware also and you have to choose the especially the 2 pkg and the answer is if i translate "shut the f*** up" and a reminder of the law
Ok it's maybe a little bit aggressive. Just pointing on the upstream bug report is enough.
But anyway have a nice sunday
