Yeah with those settings, disabling VRR and using QT WAYLAND SHELL on Sddm, the bug still persists.

yeah the pageflip timeout message, with X11 I dont have that message but the freezing still occurs.

Ok this what happens with X11, with an X11 kde session, everything start to freeze and seems like sddm x11 helper is spamming journalctl with some issue with modeset and EDID? idk but its the same thing, when that happens my computer freezes

Or wait ignore this last message, I forgot I had to disable sddm wayland shell, I need to test more to see what happens with X11, but as far as I remember the freezing was still present.
Lets wait and see I dont remember if I ever tested with X11 and at the same time with VRR disabled.

Ok tested two hours with Xorg, kwin x11, didnt see any freezes, need to test more... But for the moment I am gonna try another quirk I heard setting KWIN_DRM_NO_AMS=1 on /etc/enviroment might help. Because with Xorg I dont have HDR. And Xorg is going to be deprecated soon.

Don't swap out too many variables at once but you might also want to try some other wayland compositor (labwc or so) to rule out a bug in kwin_wayland specifically.

yeah this is the best tweak so far to mitigate the issue, I dont have the message anymore but still there is some hiccups... I will continue testing.

So KWIN_DRM_NO_AMS=1 stops the kwin wayland pageflip timeout messages, but I am still getting freezes with high cpu usage and IO of kworker processes. Took a nap and went I returned to the PC, there was lots of kworker processes occupying all the cpu usage, everything was freezing. Had to turn off the PC completely for a few minutes and when I restarted things were fine. This time there is no indication of anything in the logs, but clearly something is borked, either hardware or software. Tbh I should buy a new mobo. Clearly its something of a power issue, but who knows what it can be, on the bios there is no weird indication of anything.

I mean I can still reboot with CTRL+ALT+DELETE, is more like everything becomes super unresponsive, like the mouse moves 1 pixel per 30 seconds, like that.
It was a good run lol the log starts yesterday at 18 XD not everything is lost, thats the most I could ever have the pc without rebooting. XD

The thins sticking out in the journal are deezer/discord.
If you run into this again, try whether just logging out/killing all user/session processes is sufficient.

yeah its feels like heavy IO from the disks, I am using bcache, but it cant be a bug in bcache because I already tried booting an ISO from a USB and in a live linux ISO; the bug is still present.
I already checked my disks with smartctl and all seems fine. I have two mechanical drives and two NVME, one of the mechanical drives has a few errors but it seems the errors, or the sectors have been corrected, I ran smarctl -t long on it, all fine.

ooh now I see systemd-coredump... how can I check whats the thing coredumping? maybe I should disable systemd coredump? I already disabled drkonqui coredump.
EDIT Ok I disabled systemd coredump using this guide https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Core_dump, tbh I think its false positive because nothing I can see its crashing or abruptly shut itself, might be whats causing the heavy IO, the coredump, dunnoh.

I think several things are happening at the same time...
1- Yes something is coredumping, SOLUTION >> disabling systemd coredumps
2- Kwin Pageflip timeouts, seems that KWIN_DRM_NO_AMS=1 solves it.
3- Another bug hitting me because I have high cpu usage from kworkers https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/ … items/5418
SOLUTION >>> seems that kernel 7.3-rc4 solves it... I compiled that kernel from AUR.

Lets see if if now my system is more stable.

The "match" in "sudo coredumpctl info match" is a placeholder.
Check what actually crashes and fix/address that.

today I had high cpu usage from kworker processes, rebooting didnt not fix it, I rebooted several times... the thing that fixed it, was swapping the display port cable to a different output.
