Starting Arch Linux, who starts some executables?

Start Arch Linux KDE > System Monitor > Applications > Background Services: a list of some executables, (alll?) located in /usr/bin, e.g. plasmashell, pipewire, dbus-broker...

Who starts these executables?

There is not any such thing as 'Arch Linux KDE' and you do not explain how you started it.

You presumably started them, probably by executing either startplasma-x11 or startplasma-wayland (at least for the first two), which started something which started something else ...

Re: Starting Arch Linux, who starts some executables?

For stuff that's started on demand through dbus no mechanism exists to disable them, there is however a way to prevent them from getting started .

Look in /usr/share/dbus-1/services and /usr/share/system-services folders .

example :
I have bad experiences with the systemd oom killer and don't want it to run unless I explcitily start it (which is very rare) .
If I remove /usr/share/system-services/org.freedesktop.oom1.service dbus no longer can start it on demand .

Upon next update of systemd it will be put back though. To get rid of it permanently you can use pacmans NoExtract option.
see man pacman for details.

WARNING :
This is similar to using a 200 pound sledgehammer to drive a pushpin in a wall .
Some can do that succesfully, many will damage the wall badly and some will hammer the wall into smithereens.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/D-Bus - expansion notice, use /etc to shadow the dbus service.

Pity that whoever added that didn't mention where it is documented or when it became possible.
