Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Great the new Icon is very nice, and it fits better with the other icons of kdemod

Have you tried to turn it off and on again?

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

I recently (last night) changed my kickoff icon to one from the kde-look.org forums as I didn't like the default kickoff icon provided by kdemod.  Now I read there is a new default.  Please, could someone post a picture of the new icon to this thread?  I'm away from my Arch Install for next 3 days and I'm keen to check out the new (default) artwork!

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

I just installed the patch that came out today... but all of a sudden, my boot hangs, when i login, he runs the /.kde/autostart/ folder, but no panels appear...

If you guys need any config files let me know, i cant startup applications either, so i need to figure out how to get them up here in that case.

Thanks in Advance Yaz.

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Yazcon: Dont know whats happening on your machine, but please try it with a fresh user too... btw, what do you mean with the hanging boot? KDE startup or the boot process of your machine?

cyprinus: KBear is not a part of the KDE distribution, its an extra tool and so its also not a part of KDEmod. It seems that no one on arch uses KBear, there is even no package in AUR available and you have to build it for yourself if you want to use it.... Honestly, i tried this app some time ago and it was very unstable, so why dont you give KFTPGrabber a try smile

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Hi funk,

I ment the Kde boot. After the splash screen nothing happens, i see my background. And my autostart application.

the 2 things ive updated were

kdemod-kdebase
kdemod-kdenetwork-kticker

but the last one has been deleted already. should i make a new user account and try to login? ive got all my information saved on my main user so how do i fix that problem?

Yaz

edit: new user, same thing, i do get the desktop icons on this one (only because ive got mine turned off.) i can also use these desktop icons, but still no taskbar...

Excellent choice.  By coincidence, I took a look at them last night and decided on the green one for my install as it looked better for me on my desktop given the colour of my panel and the colour of my wallpaper.  Thanks for changing the default one as the previous default icon was functional but crap to look at.  Keep up the great work man!

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Noticed my issue, the kicker application is ofcourse the taskbar...

I was using an application called kticker, i thought that was it. silly mistake, forgive my newbness.

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Yazcon,

please try it with a fresh user to check out if its really a problem with KDEmod... The update just added a new kickoff icon and two (configurable) patches for krandr to support Tablet PCs, so i dont think that this affects the startup of KDE...

btw, the last update brought kdemod-kdebase and kdemod-kdebase-kicker, and you need both of them installed... Could it be that you deleted the package kdemod-kdebase-kicker? Because there is no kdemod-kdenetwork-kticker... If you dont have the kicker package on your machine, INSTALL IT smile (pacman -S kdemod-kdebase-kicker) The package contains the kicker panel, and really, i can tell you that you want this one smile

-EDIT- OK, seems to be solved, phew

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

update

- updated kickoff to the latest version from suse
- included a patch from gentoo xeffects (these guys rock!) for more kickoff config options in the kcontrol module
- added wifi support for ksysguard
- added fully configurable taskbar colors (this is very experimental, please report any bugs)
- switched the complete kdebase build process to unsermake instead of plain make (suse patches like kickoff or tablet pc support are a hell to build without)
- fixed dependencies for ark (forgot to add unrar and unzip)

EDIT: forgot qt-3.3.8 wink

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Hi,

First, I wanted to say thanks for all the hard work you obviously put into kdemod.

After updating today, I noticed that the kickoff menu has a black strip along the top. This doesn't look very good with my theme. Is there some way to get rid of it?

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Just checked my .xsession-errors file, which is getting larger and larger (148 kB), and it's filled up with the following error-message:

QFile::open: No file name specified

Nothing more, but this line over and over again. Anybody else has this phenomenon? Is it KDEMOD related?

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Master One: sorry, this doesnt happen here so i cant help you much with that. maybe you check out this KDE bug and also follow the links to its duplicates... it seems that there are a lot of triggers that can lead to this QFile spam... I will also investigate a little bit more...

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Thanks for the hint, funkyou, it was indeed klaptopdaemon causing this error message several times a minute. Quite shocking that a ~ 2 year old bug, which has been reported and confirmed several times, is still present in the actual KDE version. The solution was to disable the LID switch action in klaptopdaemon (just manually configured suspend-to-ram in /etc/acpi/handler.sh).

funkyou I see you updated PKGBUILS but also changed access privileges so we can not get them. Anyway - great work, my KDE works like never before.

Examining Kontact I discovered, that the modules KArm, multisynk and KPilot are missing. Which packages are these part of?

This may sound stupid, but how in the heck do I start kdemod? From /opt/kde/bin/startkde?

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Thanks bird.

Btw, I have a question about something that's been bothering me about KDE since I first started using it with Kubuntu.

Is there way to have multiple workspace functionality like that of gnome (empty task list, etc)?
