Network Problem

Hi, I have some problems with the network in archlinux.
I have a modem ethernet and I run pppoe-setup, then I insert all the information like user, password and dns but the network simply doesn't run.
Some of the errors in /var/log/errors.log are

not replacing existing default route to eth0
Cannot determine ethernet address for proxy ARP

Hope someone can help me.

Are you trying to get online via a dialup connection?

Are you connected to a network (ie. using your network card and are sitting behind a router/switch/hub)?

this is the situation:

MODEM --> HUB/SWITCH -->COMPUTER
with a normal adsl.

In ubuntu only with ppoeconfig it works perfectly..
