Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

pedepy: because you just want to download the packages and install them offline on another machine, here is a suggestion:

get pacman.static from somewhere and download the packages with "pacman.static -Sw kdemod", and dont forget all the extra apps you want and your localization (pacman -Ss kdemod to search the repo)... This will only save the packages and you can copy them somewhere and take them home...

the best option would be arch on an usb stick and boot from it. then you download the packages as described above and you can use them on your home machine...

downloading them all manually and so on would be too hard i guess, as there are too many dependencies...

well heres the problem .. the internet machine I use is at an internet cafe which runs XP, and its whenever I tried to boot a linux I never got the internet to work because its a funky strange ethernet configuration with like dozens of machines and etc...

my second option is to boot from my friend's laptop but whenever he sees a command line he has a heart attack because he has pretty important documents saved on his machine and always thinks im gonna total his computer with linux ... anyway

I think I got what I need now, all the base packages with dependencies (yeah, i went through them one at a time ...), so ill hop home and try to install them and report back about that..

thanks again

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Hey. Been awhile. I have been very busy. sad I have had this bug ever since the start of kde 3.5.6, even with the official Arch release. The bug is where I would open up konqueror in web browsing mode from the start menu or from the quicklinks down in the taskbar, then I would close that and sometime later open the home folder with the home Icon on the desktop, but the home foulder would be the same size as what I had my web broswer as. Normally home is a smaller window and web browser is large. I had to stop using konq as my web browser because of this. Has this been fixed and patched yet?

Thanks

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Welcome back ShaduwBlink,

hm, i dont know about this bug... But some time ago i played around with konqueror profiles and didnt notice this behaviour... The konq profiles are somewhat broken imho, mainly the management of toolbars that dont get saved properly, and thats also the only reason why i use opera...

Maybe someone else can tell you more about that...

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

I got a problem with Gwenview, it isn't starting anymore.

[root@celestary chaosgeisterchen]# gwenview&
[1] 12120
[root@celestary chaosgeisterchen]# gwenview: error while loading shared libraries: libexiv2-0.12.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

libexiv2 is not found by pacman either so I have absolutely no idea hot wo process further.

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

gwenview has to be rebuilt against newest  exiv2.  The official pkg (gwenview 1.4.1-3) is fixed.

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Gwenview and libexiv are both not a part of kdemod... It seems that gwenview just needs a rebuild because of the updated exiv2...

Did no investigation in this case.

@snowman: When will the update be available?

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

update

- updated icon execute feedback to the latest version
- added kleansweep to kdemod-extra
- moved poppler dependency from kdegraphics-base to kdegraphics-kpdf
- added fribidi as dependency for kdebase
- removed indexing from kmail

There is also a feed available now at the website which informs automatically about changes in svn...

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

first of all, thanks for kdemod. that's what I expected from Arch's 'default' kde in the first place (you know, KISS and stuff), and I was surprised for the least that it was not so. barring extra patches, I think this modularity should be the kde available in Arch 'current' repo (I don't throw a stone to anyone, I just express what I expected)

well, now to my question: lately, after some upgrade of sort, the rubberband (tinted transparent selection) disappeared... how to track the cause down, and how to get it back?

EDIT: nevermind. for some obscure reason CC->Appearance->Style->Effects->Rubberband went to 'disable'. Well, I didn't know the option was even there smile

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

I have question for those who uses Kerry - I found that it heavly uses my CPU - does anyone know solution for this ? When I add some torrents to download ~5 GB kerry has been indexing data for almost 5 hrs and this gave me CPU usage about 30~40 % hmm

Instead of this problem KDEMOD rocks it's simply incredible wink Thanks!

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Don't use beagle ;-)

Seriously, indexing engines aren't ready yet. And I can't imagine a mono indexing engine ever being ready... Wait until tracker and/or strigi are getting some integration in apps. Hopefully, beagle and those will all be ported to a common DBUS interface, and you can choose whichever you want to use.

Will it be faster when having Kerry disabled?

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Just disable the beagle indexer in the kerry options... and when beagle is deactivated, you can also unload kerry because its pretty useless then...

Well, strigi seems to be the best option when it comes to indexing... and now get someone to include strigi suport in kickoff and wer're done and can remove beagle smile

THANKS for kdemod. I guess the only thing I don't like about it is typing those gigantic package names. tongue

I agree with lloeki. Kdemod just seems like a perfect example of the arch way...

"lightweight and flexible"    "tries to Keep It Simple."

I've removed kdemod-kerry and .beagle folder too (almost 1 GB !) and now every thing works fine - thanks!

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

while i do like kdemod, i use it in one of my computers. i think the "keep it simple" way to do things is like its done currently.. just providing the official packages from kde. if you like kdemod, just enable the repo.
