Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I'm a weechat man myself, but do have problems when running inside of screen and then subsequently split the window...it's a known issue though.

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I use irssi because weechat uses between 15% to 25% percent of my cpu (xp1700+) all the time!

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

atm I am using screen+irssi as I have a very customized irssi theme and a few very customized scripts. If/when weechat can use irssi themes (which I hear will be soon) I *might* switch but not until then..

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

weechat-curses view will be more customizable in near future, but i doubt it will support irrsi themes.

2gunnix: check your scripts, it shouldn't happen

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

God bless this thread, this made me find a damn nice irc client.
The key bindings, the inteface and the splitview is very(*10) nice.

edit: bye bye, irssi!

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I haven't got any scripts or stuff like that. I did now delete my .weechat folder to see if that would change anything, but it didn't. Right after starting weechat-curses already consumes 20%, and it stays like that all the time.
I don't have this with weechat on debian.

Please drop in #weechat @ freenode, FlashCode (main weechat developer) wants you to provide more info. It looks like bug hmm

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I use irssi, I tried weechat and it was pretty nice but I pretty much wanted to port my irssi setup to weechat... I could not do it. The biggest problem I had was changing the theme, afaik weechat does not support theming (it does support changing the colour scheme though). At this point I ditched weechat.

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I use irssi regularly, felt right at home using weechat, it's a good client, but nothing major that would convince me to switch, I don't care about the backend or the simplicity of configurations, irssi has better guide and better community, so that's not really a concern.

I like both, they are way better than mIRC and xchat for sure.

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I use irssi mostly because I have a nice hilightwin configured and nicks only take up a sane amount of space (not right justified based on max nick lenght).

Señor.Elendig did toss a weechat config my way recently.
Maybe sometime in the future I will give it another spin..

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I use irssi.

I configured years ago when weechat was unknown/very new. My configs have just "followed" me around since give or take a few channels.

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

I used irssi until I decided to try out weechat one day (back when I was using Debian). I feel like weechat is "lighter" although I may be flat out wrong here. Also I like the fact that you can easily create plugins using a C interface, not that the perl interface for irssi was bad, but it just felt like bloat to me in a way. Of course irssi is still a billion times better than the other clients out there, but I found weechat to be on about the same level. After a few minutes of tweaking I had it looking like my irssi plus the nicklist. I also wrote a small weechat plugin to send new messages to a pipe so I could see my last messages on a dzen bar, anyone interested can grab that here (also includes one for pidgin/libpurple), http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=64933

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

weechat.
I did try irssi but it was confusing at start/had dumb defaults, no nicklist and I wasn't willing to dig into configuring it.
Besides, I already liked weechat wink

weechat because of the sane defaults.

Re: [POLL] weechat vs. irssi

Undecided. I literally started my move from Konversation to CLI based IRC last weekend, so I'm not even 100% sure I'll stick to either, although the combination with SSH & Screen is awesome. I started out this weekend irssi and only found out about weechat due to this thread.

Right now irssi is in the lead, but that's probably just because of the time I invested in configuring it last weekend. I do have to say that, had I tried both at once, I'd probably have gone for weechat because (as others have already said) it does have the better defaults.

Right now I'm guessing I'll stick with irrsi (mainly) for the rest of this week, then see if I can get around to configuring weechat to my liking next weekend before making a decision between the two.

So no vote from me yet, just a thank you for pointing me to another good IRC client.

I use irssi. Using weechat-curses I could see the lines slowly being printed, one after the other. I don't know if irssi is indeed faster, but if feels a lot faster.

I had some weird redraw issues with weechat too, now that you mention it. when I changed channels, some text (that didn't have new text overlayed) would stick around. I had to force redraw every time I changed a channel to clear the artifacts.
weird.

You need to actually add the server before you can connect to it.  Try "/help server" for information on adding new server info.

/connect irc.somerandomserver.com  works for me, even if the server isn't saved. smile (0.2.6)

Anyway +1 for weechat. Mostly because it has some nice defaults, a more readable config, and can be scripted in other languages than perl tongue

Granted, I've never tried weechat, but irssi really doesn't have anything I could think to criticize right now.

Irssi.  Tried Weechat for a bit and it looks it is going to become my favourite once it gets more mature.  For now, though, irssi does all I want and need.
