hi all
i first installed Arch on VMware (windows), and everything worked perfectly fine. After some time, I decided to install it on my system, but some network problems appeared.
I've set /etc/hosts, /etc/rc.conf and /etc/resolv.conf, done pppoe-setup, lshwd + modprobe my network card, but the network still doesn't work. If i type iwconfig, all I get is:
eth0 no wireless extensions
eth1 no wireless extensions
ppp0 no wireless extensions
Ifconfig results appear to be fine.
My network card is "CK 804 intel" (forcedeth) and i use Gimmick.
Thx in advance

1. forcedeth is wired NIC
2. gimmick is outdated, syncupgrade to current, then grep dmesg for card name and install needed firmware

i don't have wifi, but wireless. NIC is connected to my antenna, which is then wirelessly connected to AP.
i'm DLing voodoo right now, just tell me the string, pls, i'm not really familiar with grepping...

so if you dont have wifi you shouldnt be using iwconfig, if what you have is
Internet ----> Wireless Router ---> Wireless Antena-To Wired Network (AKA bridge) ---> your wired computer
then you just have to treat it as a normal wired configuration, if your antena is running a dhcp server just do dhcpcd -nd eth0 if it doesn't and you need to set up a static ip check your /etc/rc.conf

no man, it has static IP. /etc/rc.conf is well set... I even removed "!" in front of the gateway...

ok, my problem is solved. The only thing i had to do is to type "route del default" before the "pppoe-start" command.

There is no difference between 'wifi' and 'wireless'. If there is: enlighten me.

how do i set my su password?
Please do not hijack threads, especially for completely different topics.
Regarding su: the password is simply the user's password.

That is because you are not root.
I have to correct what I wrote above regarding su. It was late and I misread your post as asking for the sudo password. But you ask for the password to enter after typing "# su", correct? That is the root password, of course.
Please open a new thread for the su keyboard problem. It is off topic.
