sound problem

hello guys, i dont know why, but i cant open the gnome volume manager :s i have always been able to use it.. but now, when i open, i get this error box: no volume control gstreamer plugins and/or devices found.
why is this? i was told my alsa was broken, but i was also told that that guy was drunk... can anyone help me?

Are the devices being created in /dev?  What's in /dev/snd and /dev/sound?  If there's nothing but seq and timer in /dev/snd then your driver isn't loaded, or is broken.

i am not in archlinux right now, i will answer later.. anyway how can i know whats in /dev/snd and on /dev/sound ?
is it possible that the driver got broken when i pacman -Syu'ed ?

ok, i booted into archlinux and i didnt have the error so lets forget about it yikes
