While upgrading the kernel, I got a lot of these:
/lib/initcpio/functions: line 138: modinfo: command not found
That doesn't seem right, and I really need my laptop to boot again without any hacking tomorrow morning. Downgrading to the previous kernel has the same result .
I'll leave it running for now, I'll check back hoping for an answer soon.

the forum search function didn't find me this the first time around, unfortunately that doesn't solve the issue.
I reinstalled module-init-tools, did pacman -S kernel26 (twice, even), no change.

Never mind, got it here
export PATH=$PATH:/sbin
pacman -S kernel26
</panic>
