Re: mirror errors: vt and gatech

amunimanghi,

For 64 bit Community, Easynews will look like this:

Server = http://mirrors.easynews.com/linux/archlinux/community/os/x86_64

For 32 bit:

Server = http://mirrors.easynews.com/linux/archlinux/community/os/i686

Do you have the full path in your configuration files?

Re: mirror errors: vt and gatech

Hey, thanks, that mirror is fast!

(I've submitted a feature request asking for its inclusion in pacman's default mirror list, FWIW.)

Re: mirror errors: vt and gatech

I think the easynews mirror is in Arizona at least thats what sourceforge says smile . Found it accidentally while using this google search algorithm

{-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:"index of" +"last modified" +"parent directory" +description +size "searchterm"}

EDIT: To be more exact its in Phoenix, AZ - North America.

Thanks, that fixed it. On another note, I upgraded the kernel yesterday with only community, extra, and current repositories enabled and now it's saying that the package is older.

warning: kernel26: local (2.6.20.6-3) is newer than current (2.6.20.6-2)

Re: mirror errors: vt and gatech

Thanks, easynews running decent speed here today, 250 with a short burst to 370, vt mirror refused connection.

I was just pondering , I wonder if anyone will ever think of a way to maybe combine use of pacman/bittorrent, maybe a daily or weekly current-4.12.07-snapshot.torrent could be downloaded and the whole collective could help seed, would mean a good base of ppl would need to be connected, just a wild notion I suppose, would prolly only work with a large community.(plus some spare dedicated hdd space for basicly your own mirror and I suppose a tracker would still be needed, no idea what kind of bandwidth those require) okay scratch that idea, damn ! thought I was on to something
wink

Could actually work if enough ppl commited to the hdd space and connecting for a certain number of hours per day.... I think(/me gets smacked by those large flyswatter thangs that come up from the ground in Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy for getting an idea)

Re: mirror errors: vt and gatech

I stumbles across this today while trying to find out what happened to gatech.

"January 16, 2006

Through continued support from Sun Microsystems and their most excellent Academic Excellence Grant Program, GTlib has expanded again. Disk space is now provided by a 4TB StorEdge 3511 SATA disk array. Three front end servers provide http, ftp and rsync services, while a fourth acts as a file server. All four machines are SunFire v20z's with AMD Opteron processors running Linux.

Through contributions from GT-RNOC, we have also expanded our network capacity. All servers now have gigabit links to the campus backbone as well as a private gigabit network for NFS traffic to the fileserver.

Please do not use the old names ftp-linux.cc.gatech.edu, www.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu, ftp.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu or rsync.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu as they are now depricated and may cease to exist.

The new names for GTlib services are www.gtlib.gatech.edu, ftp.gtlib.gatech.edu and rsync.gtlib.gatech.edu."

This is the link.   http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu

At the link they have a lot of distros listed but no Arch.

We must have really made them mad.

Also, here in the USA I found that ftp://mirror.cs.vt.edu/pub/ArchLinux/ is incorrect. If you make it http://mirror.cs.vt.edu/pub/ArchLinux it runs very fast, at least for me. Avg. 800-900k

Easynews is fast too at about 300-500k
