Re: pinball - more tables?

I had a look but couldn't find anything, it's hard to google it as the programme name is just pinball. Is there a Linux port of the mame pinball emulator? I forget it's name, that has millions of tables, based on real ones...

Re: pinball - more tables?

And it's DX, so don't expect one.

If you develop an ear for sounds that are musical it is like developing an ego. You begin to refuse sounds that are not musical and that way cut yourself off from a good deal of experience.

Re: pinball - more tables?

thanx

is there a chance to rewrite such games to SDL?

after a short reading (on microsoft) i got the idea that DX is very similar to SDL in the basic concept

Re: pinball - more tables?

so theoretically you can take a windows-DX game and recompile it against SDL without changing anything?  (is SDL a mimikry or clone of DX?)

Re: pinball - more tables?

SDL is definitely not a clone, and it's not a library for the actual rendering of graphics - in fact it uses DX to do the rendering in Windows(and X elsewhere of course). This caused a problem for me once(I've worked with SDL through the PyGame wrapper libraries), because as it turns out DirectX will destroy all the graphics held in memory when you alt-tab out a full-screen game; it took me quite a while to figure out what was going on and deal with it by reloading everything after you return to the game(ugh). SDL still operates at a relatively low level, but its main strength is that it abstracts away the hardware details for you, making graphics, sound, input, etc. all easily available regardless of your platform.
