Apart from this issue (which will be fixed), i cant understand why people still use arts - its totally deprecated & slow and also the reason for many errors...

A better alternative (if you want to have kde sounds without arts) is to disable arts and set an external app like play or ogg123 in kcontrol...

Then why kdemod-kdelibs depends on arts? (BTW, I also don't like arts, but since it gets installed anyway...)

Arts is needed to build KDElibs for example... There are also many programs that need some headers from arts when building them... You can specify "--without-arts" sometimes but not always, so we need to keep it...

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

just updated (and I was installing my webcam last night by the classic way tongue)
I don't know if it works, I haven't connected it yet (i'm at a demoparty now! yeaaah)

I have a question though, is it possible to make the win key open the kick-off menu?
and ideally win+d show the desktop and win+e fire up konqueror (or krusader)
it is a bit windows style, but these shortcuts are reaaaally handy and practical
(I just made yakuake appear with win+c!)

thanks in advance wink

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Thanks again for all your hard work.

After this last update, I no longer have icon previews for videos. Also what happen to the arch branded startup screen?
Also no sound preview when I hover over icon of audio file.
I am also having problems w/ keyboard repeating. If left on (default) it's like keys are getting stuck. I can turn it off, but I prefer it on, especially while working in the console.

Get the fix for the video-previews here: http://kdemod.ath.cx/repo/kdemod-kdemul … pkg.tar.gz

I dont want to screw the repo because the file suffix has changed with pacman3, so just download that package and install it with -U ...

Keyboard repeating is working perfectly here.

Yes, the arch splash screen got removed with the update... I am currently looking for a good replacement... If you want to have the arch splash back, get it here

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Hi,

I switched today to kdemod: great job, thank you!

On my laptop everything looks good except for the konsole that has not transparency anymore sad All the settings remained as before the change, but the background is not transparent.

Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Hi

I switched to kdemod yesterday. ALmost everthing runs fine, but 2 issues.

1. the Konqueror (file management) windows sometimes don´t redraw properly, so it looks kind of messed up.
2. In the sam Konqueroe (file mode) I don´t have the show icons / show detailed folder buttons, and there no where to add in the properties.

This happens because we have a patch applied which provides real transparency for konsole, but only with a composite manager enabled (like beryl)... I have read somewhere that this will be in 3.5.7 as an optional commandline switch for konsole... So for now you have to live with it and wait about 3 weeks for 3.5.7...

1. No issues here, so i cant help you that much... Did you change something in your X config, maybe a driver update or something?
2. The viewmode buttons got merged into one button to save some screenspace. Just klick and hold the cursor over the viewmode button to see all modes:

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

When I want to "safely remove" a removable drive like a USB Pendrive or the like, I get the following error message:

"Die Geräteeinbindung wurde erfolgreich gelöst, jedoch lässt sich das Medium nicht auswerfen."

Which translates to : The device was successfully removed but could not be ejected.
Of course a USB pendrive can't be ejected, but what is kde trying to do here?

Yeah, I saw that error message recently as well. Not every time, though, only once or twice. Pretty weird, indeed, KDE trying to eject an USB stick...

Is there a way to undo this? At first, I thought it was cool, but the three buttons had a huge advantage: they where smart. They always switched to the most recently used one from that particular list when you just did a click on 'em. So in 90% of the cases, you could go to detailed view or photoalbum view with a single quick click. Now you always have to keep the button pressed for some time, then look in the list for the right view and click it - so I find myself NOT using it at all! I think, after some time using this, I want my 3 buttons back...

(still love the combined refresh/stop button, though)

From the screenshots I thought you have changed the "K" Icons of both, the kickoff and the normal kicker menu to the arch logo? Did you load that up? I can't access testing right now, seems some problem there. I'd really like to see the arch logo instead of the K soon. smile

Its not an error message... When you remove the removable drive, kio_media_mounthelper will be executed which calls the script "kdeeject" in /opt/kde/bin... Then "eject" is executed by this script but obviously there is nothing to eject when removing an USB stick for example wink Well, someone could hack the kdeeject script to actually detect what sort of media is to be removed...

As i dont use this button at all, its indifferent for me... If there are enough people who do not want to have it, we'll remove it with the next version...

/testing is gone for now, we will open it again with 3.5.7 to ensure a smooth upgrade... I have already created an animated arch button for kickoff, and these changes will come with 3.5.7...

If there is someone experienced in making a kdm theme and splash, i would love to see some (lightweight) stuff with arch artwork, preferably the "new" arch logo as a base which you can see on top of this forum...

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

On a very clean Arch install, I'm trying to add kdemod. I removed the basic KDE and Qt components, added the server to my pacman.conf, and still, "pacman -Sy" followed by "pacman -S kdemod" returns that the package isn't in the sync DB.

The 64bit repo is still broken sad We have to wait for Dunkelstern until his hardware gets fixed...

Nope, I'm using the 686 repos. Let me try again before I leave the office.

OK, still getting the error:

error: 'kdemod': not found in sync db

Here's the bottom of my pacman.conf:

# An example of a custom package repository.  See the pacman manpage for
# tips on creating your own repositories.
#[custom]
#Server = file:///home/custompkgs

Server = http://kdemod.ath.cx/repo/current/i686

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

@ArchPad
You need to have:

# KDEMod
# http://kdemod.ath.cx
[kdemod]
Server = http://kdemod.ath.cx/repo/current/i686

You need the repo name "[kdemod]" !
