Are you using the current repo? I would not recommend it anymore and we will move our testing stuff soon anyway, just killing the last few problems...
The nas (libaudio.so.2) dependency problem has been solved in kdemod-arts 1.5.7-3 in testing, and as said before kopete is build without any further optimizations now, so the only broken thing could be the powertop patch...
Please test this, if it does not work i will remove the powertop patch also...
I really don't know what is going on: I am using kdemod-arts 1.5.7-3 from testing repos (I also did restart the computer after the upgrade to be sure everithing was reloaded).
I think my kopete package was working also in the 3.5.7-1 version: the audio notification problem seems to be not related to kopete, and visual notifications were working for me in the optimized version.
The weird thing is that I have noticed that, by installing nas, notifications starts working again...

Ok, thanks for the info. I think i got it now... I am currently building some new packages which should solve this issue...

Good afternoon, funkyou
I have only Kopete's notification enabled, sounds are disabled for me, but as a deletion of Kopete's config files does not work I think that it's more KDEmod-related in general.
Notification still not working here after the latest update. If you need further information, just tell me.

chaosgeisterchen,
What does that mean? Do you have the arts daemon disabled but use kopetes sound notifications...? I cant understand your term "sounds are disabled"... Is your arts daemon disabled or enabled? or do you use an external player application like play for your notifications?
Please start "artsd" from a commandline and look if there are any errors...
Well, for me its all working, and there are only 2-3 users who have this issue, so i doubt that this is really a problem with the packages...
And just for completeness, here are the two ways how you can configure your notifications in KDE (read them carefully):
With Arts: Open kcontrol and enable the Sound-System. Then open the notification settings, set enable all sounds for all apps and dont forget to set your output device to "Use KDE sound system" in the "Player Settings" below. After doing that, go back to the Sound-System settings and open the "Hardware" tab and set your driver to ALSA. This will restart Arts and sounds should be working. You can test them afterwards in the notification settings. This works perfectly for me with the latest packages from testing.
Without Arts: Open kcontrol and disable the Sound-System at first. Then open the notification settings and open the "Player Settings" below. Set it to "Use an external Player" and enter "play" as the command. Apply the settings and close the dialog. You can now test your notifications again in the notification settings. This also works perfectly for me with the latest packages from testing.
Without arts is definitely recommended...
And yes, i dont have nas installed anymore...

Sorry for the confusion. I have the sound notifications disabled, that's the thing. artsd was crashing all the time before the update today but now it seems to work again.
I hope you understand now what I mean.

chaosgeisterchen,
when you write "it seems to work again" it could be either "arts does not start without an error now" (which does not mean that you notifications are working again) or "my notifications are working again"... We are currently putting a bit research into how users can provide us better information The biggest problem is that most people forget to tell us their architecture or to provide a proper error message or just the name of the app that is working or not... I am a very humane person, but i cannot solve everything without proper information No critic here, just a small reminder. And your information also helped us to find this nasty thing.
Sometimes people forget to set their preferred way of playing the notifications in the Player Settings and claim its not working, i just wanted to make this clear with the small "howto" above...
And some general stuff (e.g. "to everyone reading this"):
Please, whenever there are crashes or something isnt working:
- start the problematic app from a terminal
- look out for any messages
- give us this information and also your architecture, so we can work with it
- use our bug tracker, its perfect for such stuff like crashes
I hope we get 3.5.7 out to our current repo this evening. The 64bit packages seem to need some final fixage, but all in all everything what we have planned for this release is done so far...

I'm terribly sorry, once again. I should specify it in a more detailled way, thanks for reminding me.
arts
After having it crashing all the way after updating from 3.5.6 to 3.5.7, it works now again, thanks to the bugfix you provided today.
kopete
The notifications still do not work. I have posted the console output earlier, if it might help you to track down the mistake. The problem is occuring since updating from 3.5.6 to 3.5.7.

Everithing seems to be working fine now: artsd starts without issues and kopete/kmail notifications runs too.
Thanks for your work: I really appreciate it a lot.

chaosgeisterchen,
set up a new user account and try it with this user... At first with the defaults, and then modify the settings that they match the ones you use on your primary user... I dont believe that is has something to do with our packages anymore, and i dont know where to look for more possible solutions... There seems something b0rked on your machine...
About dbus: Is the dbus damon not running or what?

It's probably a good idea in general to put the [kdemod] repo above all others in /etc/pacman.conf.

lol: after some time of nice working notifications stopped working again.
The situation is this:
artsd starts without problems
My configuration for the notifications is this:
Player Settings: ogg123
CPU: Centrino Duo T2400 @ 1.83 GHz
Reported error in konsole when trying to play sounds in the notifications menu:
[davide@hp-arch ~]$ QGDict::hashKeyString: Invalid null key
QGDict::hashKeyString: Invalid null key
kopete: ERROR: : couldn't create slave : Unable to create io-slave:

kopete:
I have tried using a new user: same issue.
Same issue when using fluxbox instead of KDE. (and fluxbox+new user)
NAS seems to be the key again: I have removed it just after the fixing update for kdemod-arts, but the notifications where working nevertheless, maybe libsound was still in memory somewhere. Now they stopped working, but, after reinstalling nas notifications works again.
So the new artsd works even without nas, but kopete and kmail (and maybe others), are still looking for this package in order to work. I guess that it is possible that their "./configure" script somehow decided to work with nas as it was found on the system where these package are built. I am going to try rebuilding them from the PKGBUILD and see...

@funkyou: Thanks for putting the arch icon (for kickoff) into the kicker package. But why didn't you use the other one, which you had some months ago? The other one was so cool, it was not only an arch icon, but also had a background with an edge at the right end, so it looked more like a button. And it was larger. Sorry to bother you with this, but the other one was really so great, I'd love to see it again.

Maybe my guess is correct: I have rebuilt kdemod-kdelibs, using the PKGBUILD from SVN on a computer without "nas" installed and now it seems that everything is working. I have rebooted my system to be sure it's all ok and it is still working...
@ chaosgeisterchen: you could try this too...

I wonder, is the kopete patch from http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.ph … tent=54968 included? If so, then it doesn't seem to work - I can't see the 'edit theme' option...

I've decided to give kdemod a try as well, but:
error: 'kdemod': not found in sync db
Using x64 arch, and i have the current kdemod repo @ pacman.conf .
Tried with the testing repo, kdemod installs fine, but doesnt really work (the menu is blank, can't see any of the apps, it even asked me which program to use to open a folder i double-clicked on).
Any ideas?Thanks in advance
Sorry current is broken at the moment. I'm working on "testing" with funkyou currently. We have to fix one more bug and then it'll be ready for "current" so just be patient some days
That error looks like a corrupted config at your side... perhaps try with a new user.

Ok, i hope this will end the neverending nas party program...
It seems that QT4 from community also depends on nas. I didnt noticed this until those nas stuff ocurred. The reason for this whole breakage was, that i created the makefiles from the SVN tag while still having nas installed (david_e also pointed this out), and so some packages like kdemultimedia didnt even built without it...
Thank god we are still in testing
I am currently uploading new packages for i686 that should finally solve this issue. Please test them without nas, there should be no more errors... We have checked which stuff of KDE links to nas' libaudio.so.2 and rebuilded the corresponding packages...

Well, I am happy to say that I am now running KDEmod on Arch64, and it's very nice. Great work. The issue I had before has apparently been resolved (or maybe it was just on my end, I don't know). Either way, I'm pretty sure I will be working in this environment for a while. I still need to install a few more packages, but everything works just fine at the moment. Thanks again.

Updated my installation of KDEmod. The new packages were applied and I logged out and restarted X. After a new login, the notifications of kopete work again, so I can assume that this problem is fixed by now.
May you tell me, what you have changed, funkyou?
Thanks a lot

I never had a problem with nas and neither had it ever installed, so the whole issue around nas was irrelevant for me.

It wasnt irrelevant. You simply hadnt nas installed, and so you also got some errors... The reason it works now is that kdebase and kdelibs also relied on nas for their knotify stuff. Obviously kopete can not now about any breakage in kdebase/kdelibs, and thats the reason why you got those cryptic error messages from it...
Kopete is now compiled with full optimizations again and i have learned something again

Ah, I seem to understand better now Sorry, but I have no idea how the KDEmod-packages are built and therefore did not fully understand the problem.

That's why I would go for a source based distro if I had enough time to wait for packages to build. (Or if I had a supercomputer!)

guys, you're doing great work, really. very cool to see what's going on here ;-)
I didn't have time to check, only updated now and then...
Now I noticed my volume buttons don't work properly anymore, there is only one volume up/down possible, it seems it's changing the wrong volume or something. No idea what is going on, anyone has the same?
About the emoticons patch, I'll ask the author to have a look, you guys are pretty busy right now
