Hi,
Just to count myself in
I am running Arch Duke on Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (Windsor core). So far, I have installed very few packages, but everything seems to be OK. I am targeting virtualization (most likely with KVM) which I am going to try in near future. Not sure if I can help with anything right now, but if I get any useful information on KVM I'll definitely share it here.

Hi there,
I am using Arch 32bit right now on 2 machines and one server, two of them are 64-bit machines, but I have not had the time to port them nor did i really want to mess around with missing packages. However, I wanted to give it a try at the end of the week, once my workload lets me find some hours of extra time. I then could provide remote login to a 64bit system (if wanted by someone serious), or even trying to take a deeper look into arch packages myself. Although this might take 1 or two weeks.
Give me a hint how to help,
k-gee

k-gee: remote login into your machine will be of definite help when pacbuild is up and running. Can anyone else offer the same? I'd like to make a list of possible build machines for arch64 when pacbuild goes live.
To all others out there looking to help, it looks like you're going to have to become a TU before you can contribute to community64. Please read the guidelines mentioned earlier in this thread to find out how. Currently, the issue about giving new users access to upload to community is not really a fear of someone doing something malicious, but more a fear of someone breaking CVS by accident.

I could offer the same for pacbuild, how many ppl are going to have access to it if i do?

1, possibly 2.

Is it necessary to actually use ported packages?
Or would it be enough to only compile them and resolve any compile-time issues?

I don't know much about manipulating PKGBUILDs, but I'm willing to learn as much as I can. I'm a native Arch64 user and would be more than happy to help the Arch64 project. I have a nominal amount of spare time on my hands and have run into a few missing packages myself. Being able to reverse this problem for myself and others would be great! I have a little experience in compiling (Fluxbox, some dockapps, etc) and can navigate Linux somewhat well.

tanis: what do you mean by 'actually use ported packages' and compile time issues? I'm not able to follow sorry.
I'm trying to look at a situation where we could use the machines being offered for building arch64 packages in some way, if not pacbuild. I'll be bringing this up with the rest of the devs, and I'll let you know how it goes.

I wanted to know, if you need help from people who miss some of those packages that were not yet ported.
I looked at that list, and there is nothing I would like or need to use. Maybe ttf-liberation which is not in 64bit community yet
But I have native Arch64 installation and could compile some of those packages (and deal with problems which might happen with libraries or compilation on 64 bit machine). Even though I don't need those programs installed on my system.
Anyway, I have 64 bit machine and some spare time to offer. I am rather new user of Arch (and don't have that many packages in aur), but I have quite a long experience of dealing with various issues in Gentoo

I had some major problems with the hardware in one PC, which i managed to solve today.
I also gave myself a little insight on pkbuild and should be able to work with it now, however my time is limited at the moment,
because university costs a lot of time.
One 64-bit machine should be ready for remote login on tuesday, so maybe you could write me a mail so that we can discuss how that machine might help you guys.

tanis: get your hands dirty with the AUR and subscribe to TU ML.
k-gee: will let you and others willing to contribute machines with remote login know how you guys can help by next week.

I do read this list (using gmane) and I already have 8 packages in AUR (probably that's not enough, but there is nothing else I would need missing in AUR/repos)
Offline
Though were short of people for x86_64, we need all applicants to go thru the voting process..if you feel confident that you would get the votes required then introduce yourself on the TU ML.
Offline
But you haven't answered my question Does TU need to use packages he creates on daily basis?
Offline
you dont need to use it daily... just use it once you build it to test that it works.

Hello, i use 64-bit Archlinux on my laptop (FSC Amilo Pro V 3505 - Intel Core 2 Duo @ T5500) as single OS and have experience with testing and make PKGBUILD. I have 2 package in AUR (esperanza and kid3), i can help you. One problem is my bad english.

If I wanted to help what should I do? As far as I understood normal people can only post package in the AUR and they will be passed in the community only if they have enough vote, usually impossible for non extra famous programs.
Moreover the packages that are already in a repo but are an older version (red lines in your diff) should already have a maintainer.
So we just take packages that are in a i686 form in the repo, adapt them for x86_64 and post them in the AUR?

In the diff list, there are 2 kinds of out-of-date packages. There are the recent ones at the top of the list which we didn't had time yet to update and there is the old ones (out-of-date for several weeks/months) which some of them needs to be patched/fixed to build with the current gcc or for other reasons. If you want to help out you should focus on the old ones. If you can't fix them, add them to the todo list here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch64_ToDoS with the reason they don't build.
So we just take packages that are in a i686 form in the repo, adapt them for x86_64 and post them in the AUR?
No, don't post them in AUR. Just tell us that they work and we'll add them to community. You can contact us in IRC: #archlinux64
or post the list in that thread (with any necessary patch and non-trivial fixes to PKGBUILD) : http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=34245
You might want to skip the perl modules in community. They are currently being cleaned out as some of them are duplicates of perl module packages in extra.

Hi!
I'm running Arch for about 1 month after migrating from Gentoo after 5 years and I run ~amd64 for quite a long time - 1st day after upgrading to amd64.
I'd like to help bringing some pkgs to x86_64 'cause that's what I have on my desktop.
Moreover, I'd like to increase number of Haskell packages for Arch - submitted 2 so far, but have some more in a queue :-)
I'm present on #archlinux(64) as 'gour'.
Any hint how to proceed?
Sincerely,
Gour

If by bringing more packages, you mean into community, then you need to become a TU. Otherwise you can always submit packages to AUR.

I mean both
For the the latter I did a bit, for the former I belive it could (maybe) happen with a time
Sincerely,
Gour
