Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

If anyone decides to take on the KDEMod-KOffice split, you should compile Krita against GraphicsMagick. Amongst other things it will allow Krita to import .xcf files. I added some notes on the AUR page about getting GraphicsMagic to compile properly for 64 bit, and can comfirm that Krita does in fact open Gimp images.

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

I really like the idea of kdemod. So I tried and installed it but in my eyes it is too heavy modified. Would it be possible to install either the modified or a non modified modularized KDE-installation? E.g. KDM, your version looks really nice, but probably someone would anyway want to use the original KDM. The Artwork is something I don't like at kdemod. What I really hate, is the "Icon Execute Feedback". There were some other modifications I did not like, but I don't remember them all. So, would it be possible to provide two versions of your modified packages, one modularized but not modded and the other one modularized and modded (e.g. kdemod-kdebase and kdemod-kdebase-modded), so everyone can choose, if you take the modded or non-modded-version of a package (e.g. non-modded kdebase but modded kopete)?

Most of our patches can be disabled easily, and with the next release the kickoff menu is completely splitted off the base installation, as an example. So we already have made it cleaner.

E.g. KDM, your version looks really nice, but probably someone would anyway want to use the original KDM.

Its just a theme, and our KDM is not patched. Install kdmtheme and switch back to the original KDM look if you dont like the theme.

The Artwork is something I don't like at kdemod. What I really hate, is the "Icon Execute Feedback".

There is no artwork so far except our wallpaper in the current repo, so i dont know what you mean... The next build will feature a theme, but it can also be disabled and uninstalled...

The icon execute feedback can be disabled in kcontrol --> peripherals --> mouse --> visual feedback on activation

Why dont you fetch our pkgbuilds from svn and build your own modified packages? some users do this and have no problems with it... We cannot provide "your perfect desktop" and we already have about 190 packages to maintain, so there will be no further "special packages"...

Ok, that sounds good with the kickoff-menu.

Its just a theme, and our KDM is not patched. Install kdmtheme and switch back to the original KDM look if you dont like the theme.

Sorry, did not know that but thank you for this information!

There is no artwork so far except our wallpaper in the current repo, so i dont know what you mean.

Could be, that I only meant the wallpaper, it made everything look so dark... Did not recognize, that the rest was not changed. Sorry again!

The icon execute feedback can be disabled in kcontrol --> peripherals --> mouse --> visual feedback on activation

Again thanks for this information.

Sounds plausible.

I think I will give it another try, this time with another Wallpaper and the kdm-theme disabled! ^^

If you mean that a panel is drak, then check that: Kcontrol -> Desktop -> Panels -> Appearance and check Panel Bakcground section. There is a image on the panel as default.

Maybe it's time to consider starting two new threads. One for KDEMod patch requests and upgrades, and another one for support. This thread is great (in content and size), and I agree that it's getting hard to find stuff here for users that aren't up to speed.

Though its a little bit overkill, we have installed a small forum now, so the monster-thread-issue should be gone now smile

I believe those are correct Try restarting after that to see if kdm loads properly. Hope it helps.

It's chown root:root /tmp, I would guess?

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

The next build is coming along soon...

At first a warning: There is a chance that this update will modify your theme settings in KDE, because we have moved some config files and KDE has to regenerate them in your home folder. If you experience this, just reapply your color-, style-, and icon-settings in Kcontrol and everything should be ok again...

Here are the changes so far:

- kickoff is now an optional package (kdebase-kickoff) and will not be installed by default (this results in lesser dependencies and memory requirement, and is a lot cleaner for us to build)
- there are now 2 package groups: kdemod (light base installation) and kdemod-complete (full kde installation)
- new translations: br, ca, cy, eu, he, hi, hu, km, ko, nb, sk, sl, sr, uk, vi
- better i18n support for qt

- added kdesktop transparency patch
- added kicker viewport fix
- added kmail systray behaviour improvement
- added kmilo custom skin patch

- added taskbar-compiz with color support to kdemod-applets
- added kicker-compiz to kdemod-applets
- added mTaskbar to kdemod-applets
- updated kopete otr plugin to 0.5

- a new default style:
Bildschirmphoto1.png.xs.jpg   Bildschirmphoto2.png.xs.jpg   Bildschirmphoto3.png.xs.jpg

The style is applied on first startup/fresh users. If you want to activate the theme on your existing user, just apply our colorscheme and domino profile in kcontrol, and if you want to change the theme to its defaults on an existing user, just run "apply_kdemod_theme". Beware, this command will reset your desktop settings to KDEmods defaults... You can also uninstall the theme with "pacman -Rs kdemod-theme"

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

I am not much of a fan of KDE but I would love to try kdemod. I have two questions before I try it ...
1) Is kdemod binary or does it compile itself when you install it?
2) If I decide to completely remove kdemod ... how do I go about doing that?

Thanks big_smile

1. There are binaries for i686 and x86_64, just take a look here
2. pacman -Rs kdemod or pacman -Rs kdemod-complete

If you want to try it out, i suggest to wait one or two days because we are currently finalizing a new build...

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

kdemod-kdebase-kickoff wants to remove kdemod-kdebase, but this package is required by:
kdemod-kde-i18n-pl
kdemod-kdeaddons-base
kdemod-kdeartwork
kdemod-kdenetwork-base
kdemod-kdenetwork-kget
kdemod-kdenetwork-wifi
kdemod-kdepim-akregator
kdemod-kdepim-base
kdemod-kdepim-kontact
kdemod-kdeutils-base
kdemod-kerry
ksynaptics

so how can  I install kickoff?
edit: ok, using pacman -Sd solves this problem. Now this packages are dependent on kdemod-kdebase-kickoff.

another problem:
I have installed kdemod-kdebase-kickoff but when I start KDE, I have KDesktop error. Starting it from Konsole causes:

ERROR: Communication problem with kdesktop, it probably crashed.

This problem disappears when I'm using kdemod-kdebase (without kicker).

i have reported this on kdemod bug tracker

Re: kdemod - a lightified and modular KDE + additional patches

Cool "release" of kdemod, I like it a lot, thank you very much!
But I notice a strange behaviour of the domino-theme, even after executing "apply_kdemod_theme". The "info-popup" that appears if you hover over a shortcut or a file will be shown somewhere in the middle of the screen and not next to the icon or file (see screenshot below). So I can only see the popup if I hover over something next to the borders of my screen. But if the icon or file is somewhere in the middle (like when I hover over something in konqueror), the popup will only show up for some miliseconds and disappear immediately because the mouse cursor will be in it's way. I hope I could make myself clear  wink

konqueror20mx.png

So does anybody know how to get rid of this bug?  I assume it's a bug and not the normal behaviour of domino, right? yikes

Oh and can you please post the "old" background image of kdemod, the dark one with the faded Arch-logo and the blue whirling lines? That would be great.

Thanks in advance! And keep on rocking  cool

Oh and another thing that just comes into mind: As you can see in the screenshot there is this silver line that seperates kicker from the desktop. I remember that there was a patch out there that made this line disappear. Maybe you could include that patch if possible? Many thanks!
