[SOLVED]Warnings

Well I have a certain problem. When I start any application for the first time (first time after reboot) it starts up very slowly and I think it could be connected to the configuration of xorg. My video card is ATI Radeon 9550. The log file returns a few warnings and no errors. I would like to eliminate those warnings even if they are not connected with the starting speed of those applications/.

Warnings:

I've seen this problem caused by not having localhost properly defined in /etc/hosts - can you post that file?

Not to my knowledge - you definitely still want the localhost name mapping to 127.0.0.1

Well I believe that those warnings are the reason for my 'launch' problem. As I said, every time I run an application for the first time it starts ages.

Do you know of anything else that can cause such problems?

Well, let's go through them:

It can't open ACPI; not unusual if you're not running acpid.

Normal - if you only have a single monitor but a card with multiple outputs this is expected.  I get it all the time.

(WW) fglrx(0): board is an unknown third party board, chipset is supported

No problem here - it just means that your board is third-party but it's still supported by the driver.

(WW) fglrx(0): Only one display is connnected,so single mode is enabled

Again, normal if you only have one monitor connected.

(WW) LoadModule: given non-canonical module name "glesx.so"

Haven't seen this before, but it seems harmles - just saying that it's asked to load an unusual module name.

(WW) fglrx(0): Option "VendorName" is not used
(WW) fglrx(0): Option "ModelName" is not used

These options aren't used by the fglrx driver, and it's telling you that.

Are there any errors (EE) in your log?  Is there any difference if you try the free 'radeon' driver instead of the proprietary 'fglrx' one?

Ah, I see in your original post there are no errors in your log - sorry I missed that before.    I'm still curious if using the free 'radeon' driver (available in the packages xf86-video-ati and libgl-dri  -- you'll need to uninstall fgrlx first) works better than the fglrx driver for you.

Also, that xorg.conf looks pretty messy - I've cleaned it up a bit for you here.  It should do exactly the same as the one you posted, but it's easier to read and follow.  If you decide to use it, back up your existing one first, just in case I've buggered something up. wink
