Can't get ethereal to work.

I can't use ethereal; as a normal user, it gives me this error: The capture session could not be initiated (socket: Operaci....
Probably I have to give execute atrbutes to some file, if anyone knows which one please let me know.
As root it works fine, but when I stop the capture it crashes giving this error:
** ERROR **: file ftypes.c: line 431 (fvalue_set): assertion failed: (fv->ftype->set_value)
aborting...

Can someone try it, and see if it works.

Re: Can't get ethereal to work.

I'm not sure if this is true for arch (it is on any other system I'm using) but usually when you want to put device into promiscuous mode you must be root :-)
And about the error I'm afraid that you will have to ask about it on ethereal mailing lists.
If you want to capture tcp/ip packets I would advise using tcpdump itself unless you really need gui (ethereal is the last program I would really use fot network traffic capturing - it's quite buggy IMO. I have some experience with capturing packets and nothing was better than tcpdump. The second best program for network traffic analysing IMO is ettercap or for more simple tasks sniffit).

Thanks, I'll try tcpdump.
