I am getting intermittent connection resets on samba.
with thses sorts of errors in the logs:
read_data: read failure for 4 bytes to client Error = Connection reset by peer
I was hpoing to back rev the samba but need access to previous abs trees for earlier versions (I have a couple of custom tweaks needed).
Can any one point out where I can locate the old versions or have they seen this problem before?
Kind regards

On several up-to-date PCs, I get a very consistent:
[root@localhost ~]# ltrace /usr/sbin/smbd -D
--- SIGCHLD (Child exited) ---
+++ exited (status 0) +++
Have tried pacman -Rsn samba; pacman -S samba, etc. with the same result.

Actually I seem to have cleared up my samba problems by changing from a broadcom netwrok card (using the bnx2 driver) to another one (I tried a 3com, which brought on other problems) ending up with an SMC.
That said I ahave another problem now.

ckristi responded to this Samba bug (http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/7755):
I found a workaround for this bug. Yep, it wouldn't start otherwise.
I think somewhere in the process of recompiling the new package, the run directory
has been changed from /var/run to /usr/var/run. So, I made a symlink from
/usr/var/run to /var/run and everything worked again.
