Are you using LVM? if so be sure that the USELVM="yes" in rc.conf, else set it to "no". Thats the only thing that changed that I'm aware of.

It does not actually change the files either. I places them in /etc as rc.local.pacnew(no change) and rc.conf.pacnew(just the USELVM="no" line ). You have to go in and move the files into place if you want them.

Hi
it is a really strange problem.
I booted the system first with the superrescue-cd -same error. something is wrong with the irq's.
then i booted with knoppix 3.3 and teh system strated, but with many erros in some modules relatet with irq.
i edited the two files and tried to reboot arch. but the error is still there.
after detecing the last hd the system hang. only a hardware reset work.
booting windows on the same system works.
what can be wron with the irq? i didn't changed anything except updateing my arch.

Do you have anything nonstandard in your rc.conf or rc.local?
On the other hand it may also be harddisk problem (and just a coincidence that it happend after your last arch upgrade). Is your windows on a second hd? What are you using as bootmanager: grub or lilo? Exactly what errors about irq shows your knoppix (and which modules)? Maybe also try to remove anything that is not really needed from rc.conf MODULES line first. What kind of hardware do you have (board, hd is this ide or sata, etc.)?

Hi
I solved the problem!
But I dont know where the pronlem really is.
I unplugged the system fom AC, after that the system booted normaly in arch linux. After rebooting in Windows the problem was there again.
Then I removed the soundcard (Terratec DMX) and everything was fine. Now I can boot windows and linux. if I install the soundcard the problem is back.
With a AC disconnect I can use the soundcard in linux and windows Without that only in windows.
What makes windows with my soundcardcard?
I think this is an really strange behaviour
