Hi there everyone.
I got a quite general question:
Since my ISP ignores the little checkbox on my contract which says "Static IP" from time to time, Ive been looking for some small daemon updating my dyndns.org account. I stumpled on ddclient. Seems to work quite well, but I noticed that it's running as root. So my question is: Is it really necessary for ddclient to run with root-privileges? I dont see why it would need that. My IP is determined by a webservice, so no interface-fumbling needed. Is it okay to change the owner of .conf and .pid and run it as a different user? Or doesnt it make any sense to run it as non-su?
Not important I guess, since my system's only open for ssh on a non-standard port, I was just wondering though
Thanks for your time
