Hey
I followed this wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/RT73_Wireless) to install the Ralinktech driver for a rt73 based
wifi card on my brand new LG laptop. After some tweaking, the connection works fine.
Problem is that when trying to issue a 'iwlist scan' I get:
rausb0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
If I remember correctly, this problem did not occur prior to upgrading my kernel to 2.6.22 (not sure).
When I type 'iwconfig' I get:
rausb0 RT73 WLAN ESSID:"G-HOME"
Mode:Managed Channel=6 Access Point: 00:60:B3:5A:0F:45
Bit Rate=48 Mb/s
RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
meaning that the device is identified as a wireless device, but when pointing on the KnetworkManager icon
after connection I get "Wired ethernet connection active: rausb0".
This problem prevents me from scanning for available networks around me, and I have to
set it up by hand so I can connect.
Tnx a lot, I would appreciate any help,
Fiod
edit:
Obviously I can't see any available networks with KNetworkManger either..
Tnx again

I haven't used that particular driver, but as an alternative, you could try the rt2x00-cvs package in the unstable repo. This is the next generation of Ralink support, and it will ultimately be merged into the mainline kernel. It is also the only Ralink driver in active development. I'm using it with a wifi USB dongle, and it's good - still room for improvement, but working fine overall.

Hey
Tnx for the reply.
Problem is that the rt2x00 drivers gives me a much weaker signal than the rt73 driver.
Don't know how to solve it yet. Other than that it works perfect.

It's an issue with the driver (still under heavy development, remember) - you can solve it by submitting relevant patches to the project. I notice it too, but it doesn't affect my normal usage.
