This can't be the case with the official 7.3 right? Or is it a move on Nvidia's part to release new drivers for it? If so then...

That's not exactly something new. Proprietary drivers always lack behind new xorg and kernel releases.

Yea, but with the way Nvidia are releasing their drivers... i'm guessing i'll be able to use it next year.

Does "ignoreAbi" have any side effect other then ignoring version numbers? Everything is working as it should with ignoreabi but just asking to make sure...

Which driver are you using again? Nvidia? For me -ignoreabi leads to hardlocks... :?

Just checked and tried to use nvida and yes that seems as if it works. My problem is though, that I have been using nvidia-96xx for a while now for stability reasons. I used to get freezes every now and then cos the latest nvidia drivers are after all just beta drivers. :-/

Well. 7.3 is officially out. Hopefully they'll package it soon and make it available for Arch.

I have no idea how it works for Arch/pacman packages so, sorry if it sounds stupid... The people who manage the pacman "repositories" or however they are called (current/testing/etc).

Ok, I thought the 11th post in this thread would give a clue.
That xorg repo is exactly for preparing this release, to make sure everything is fine, and that it doesn't add any new bugs.
There is also a link to a bug report where are listed the bugs that needs to be fixed first.
And that is also partly what this thread was about.

I'm using the ati modules, everything seems a whole lot smoother with 7.3. Networkmanager stopped working when I upgraded, but I'm sure that's due to it being an older version or something. No other problems, though.

New nvidia driver (100.14.19) are out guys. They work perfectly with X.org 7.3 and vastly improved Compiz performance (120fps while spinning the cube with 100.14.11 vs ~400 or so with the new drivers)
