connection via cellphone

Howdy.

I have a motorola 815 I'd like to use to connect to the net with a data cable (usb I think on computer side).  I can't find alot of info on how to accomplish this.  I've looked at gammu, gnokki, and moto4lin, but these are more for file management, right?  I'd like to try moto4lin, but don't want to risk hosing my phone.

What would the interface be named?  I got my data cable on ebay, and I don't have it in my hand yet.

any comments or advice in general?  I'd appreciate it.

Re: connection via cellphone

Ok, it's pretty much just a dialup connection. I did alot of clusty-ing and finally found what I needed.

However, when I start lappy, and do

#/etc/rc.d/ppp start

I get this error, telling me to

#mknod /dev/ppp c 108 0

How can I create this device the right way?

Thanks.
