@markc: remove the pkgs from /var/cache/pacman/pkg then redownload.
@hokstein: try /opt/kde4/bin/startkde. I have both kde4 and kde3 installed.

Huh... Can anybody tell me if it is normal that I cannot find kate (and kopete, btw) ? kwrite is there but that's kate I want...
Ok,I found that kate was moved to kdedsk. Why is it so difficult to figure out which kde package contains which soft ??? Where is kopete ? Is there an up-to-date list somewhere ?

FYI: use pacman -Sy koffice2 to install latest koffice snapshot.

Hate to disappoint, but there isn't much a difference between 3.93 and 3.92. I've got kdebase4 installed, but the svn seems to be overloaded right now so I can't get other modules. Gimme a couple days.
Yes there is : http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149634

Has anyone been able to run KDE 3.5.7 and 4? I downloaded 4 from the repo, and played around with it for a little. When I went to boot back into 3.5.7, I had problems. Menu's wouldnt work, stuff like that.

Did you create a new user to try KDE 4 as recommended?

Yes, I did, his name was kde4

Same issue when going back into gnome. Had to remove every kde package on my system to get stuff to work properly again.

[Note: I'm not complaining, just observations] Same here for me when going back to 3.5.7 (KDEmod). My (3.5.7) Oxygen desktop icons were gone and all my (dozens) of kmail send and receive settings were also missing. Sure, I was fiddling with Kmail in kde4 because if it didn't work then I can't use kde4, it connected to my mail server but wouldn't download messages. I am using a "kde4" user to test kde4, with a path added for /opt/kde4/bin for only this user. On exit from kde4 I removed all files from /tmp and /var/tmp before restarting kde 3.5.7 as my normal user. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to reboot between using kde4 and kde3.5.7. Something is cached between using kde4 and kde3.5.7 because here in kde3 is an strace of saving some settings from kmail and you can clearly see the kde3 Kmail (or some library code) is still attempting to open icons from the kde4 path.

Ah, here we go, even though I have rebooted back into my normal kde3.5.7 setup as my normal user, these shell variables are still set to kde4 paths. There is no "kde4" anything in my /etc directory or my users ~/.kde folder. After this post I'll try and strace /opt/kde/bin/startkde and see if I can pick up where these kde4 variables are cached. Anyone happen to know ?

Using a separate user to check out KDE4 is the way to go.
Also, do the following before starting KDE4:
cd /etc/profile.d
sudo mkdir kdesave
sudo mv kde.csh kde.sh qt.sh kdesave/
this ensures that no KDE3/QT3 environment variables will be set. Alternatively you can just do a chmod -x on these files.
If you are using kdemod, do the same with kdemod-theme.sh
This works perfectly for me. When i had these files enabled i got loads of strange behaviour in both KDE3 and KDE4...
want a modular and tweaked KDE for arch? try kdemod

Yep, I just discovered /etc/profile.d/kde4.sh (and qt4.sh) so I edited them like below, so that when I change to the kde4 user and do a startx (or relogin via kdm) I get the kde4 vars, otherwise if I boot/start as my normal user I get KDEmod.
admin@aria.lan ~ cat /etc/profile.d/kde4.sh
if [ $(whoami) = "kde4" ]; then
export KDEDIR=/opt/kde4
export KDEDIRS=$KDEDIR:/usr
export PATH=$PATH:$KDEDIR/bin
export MANPATH=$MANPATH:$KDEDIR/man
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=$PKG_CONFIG_PATH:$KDEDIR/lib/pkgconfig
if [ ! -z $XDG_DATA_DIRS ]; then
export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$XDG_DATA_DIRS:$KDEDIR/share
else
export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$KDEDIR/share
fi
if [ ! -z $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS ]; then
export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=$XDG_CONFIG_DIRS:$KDEDIR/etc/xdg
else
export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=$KDEDIR/etc/xdg
fi
fi
admin@aria.lan ~ cat /etc/profile.d/qt4.sh
if [ $(whoami) = "kde4" ]; then
export QTDIR=/opt/qt4
export QT_XFT=true
export QMAKESPEC=$QTDIR/mkspecs/linux-g++
export PATH=$PATH:$QTDIR/bin
export MANPATH=$MANPATH:$QTDIR/man
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=$PKG_CONFIG_PATH:$QTDIR/lib/pkgconfig
fi
Oh, and it would be wise to do a cp -a ~/.kde ~/.kde.old before trying out kde4. I needed to cp ~/.kde.old/share/config/kmailrc ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc to get back all my mail settings once I sorted out the above kde4 variable issue.

Are the SVN pkgbuilds in the AUR safe? If not can you provide some? I would like to have an up to date KDE4
Offline
like I said, this beta is really broken. You can try restarting plasma and kicker through console (killall plasma && plamsa, likewise for kicker)
@miggols, you can use the -svn pkgbuilds in AUR, but they may require some modification.

rebuilt kdegraphics against new poppler-qt4. pdf plugin now works in okular (which i have to say, is a fantastic program).

Is the promise of high quality PDF's being fulfilled now?

Not sure what the promise is.. but... I guess so?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. KPDF is a good PDF viewer, but there's a lot of room for improvement. Also, print to PDF hasn't been real useful either. I'm hoping that the QT 4 plus KDE 4 combo has fixed both of these.

Couldn't tell ya, never used kpdf or okular extensively before.

What about Koffice for 64bit? There is Koffice for 32bit, why not 64bit?

Done. Make sure you at least update kdelibs.

Tardo, can you please give me a pkgbuild to qimageblitz-svn? I'm attempting to build the latest svn. Might do so weekly.

Thanks. I might start building weekly to bi monthly snapshots. Currently though the packages I just built yesterday built fine, but kde4 is in an unusable state, and laggy as hell.
