Hi guys,
I have this videochip in my laptop:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M890 [Chrome9] Integrated Video (rev 01)
Currently I'm using standard vesa for Xorg which works alright, but I would love to be able and run compiz fusion on it (nothing fancy -just the screen saver and negative plugin). Currently I'm unaware of a suitable method to install other drivers - via and openchrome both aren't working.
I'd love some help from the community, so please make yourself heard

I think xf86-video-via should support that, not sure though.
(Keep in mind that a stupid bug in the driver may prevent you from using compiz-fusion.)

Wish it were true.. but it doesn't work

If xf86-video-via doesn't work, try openchrome. There's a new version of it in Testing right now in fact.

Thanks I did try it, doesn't work, I'm guessing the chip is too new... via offers proprietary drivers but man, I have no clue on how to install those (tried it - didn't work)

I would guess your screwed, I had a via chrome video chipset, and to this day I still can't get it to work

Doesn't mean you're screwed. VESA should work at least.
For troubleshooting the chrome drivers, post some information. People can't help you when you just say "doesnt work"

Indeed but he claimed he was already using VESA, so I took the assumption thats what he would continue to use
