Chrome9 support?

Hi guys,

I have this videochip in my laptop:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M890 [Chrome9] Integrated Video (rev 01)

Currently I'm using standard vesa for Xorg which works alright, but I would love to be able and run compiz fusion on it (nothing fancy -just the screen saver and negative plugin). Currently I'm unaware of a suitable method to install other drivers - via and openchrome both aren't working.

I'd love some help from the community, so please make yourself heard smile

Re: Chrome9 support?

I think xf86-video-via should support that, not sure though.

(Keep in mind that a stupid bug in the driver may prevent you from using compiz-fusion.)

Re: Chrome9 support?

If xf86-video-via doesn't work, try openchrome. There's a new version of it in Testing right now in fact.

Re: Chrome9 support?

Thanks smile I did try it, doesn't work, I'm guessing the chip is too new... via offers proprietary drivers but man, I have no clue on how to install those (tried it - didn't work)

Re: Chrome9 support?

Doesn't mean you're screwed. VESA should work at least.

For troubleshooting the chrome drivers, post some information. People can't help you when you just say "doesnt work"

Re: Chrome9 support?

Indeed but he claimed he was already using VESA, so I took the assumption thats what he would continue to use
