mrtg and snmp

I found the mrtg package, but where is the snmp package?
I am probably searching for the wrong thing (it is named something I do not expect).

Does anyone know if it is in the repository, and if so, what is it called?

There is one net-snmp package in incoming ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/incoming

BTW mrtg doesn't need separate snmp package

Portable SNMP
MRTG Uses a highly portable SNMP implementation written entirely in
Perl (thanks to Simon Leinen). There is no need to install any
external SNMP package.

Read mrtg's man page and hompage for more info.

so it can get informaiton from the local machine without snmp now?

I knew it could get info from other machines with snmp running, but I always thought snmp had to be running locally too...

Ah now I think I get your point :-) I would use the package from incoming (to be sure if it's ok try to recompile it yourself). On the other hand if you really want it here is an example of how to monitor network traffic with mrtg and without snmp http://www.geek.net.au/mrtg.html

Hmm..Interesting approach. For some reason I never thought of just snagging the info and parsing it myself with regexp..
Silly me! *smacks forehead*

I really don't need snmp and all the hassle that can come with it if I just want info from the local box for mrtg graphs...I can leave the snmp for remote graphing!
