Getting hold of desktop environment

I have installed archlinux, just to try it out and i was fascinated with the speed at which it installed on old laptop. But i was a little disappointed that i did study enuff about it and to my dismay it does not install a windows manager by default sad

Now could anybody pls guide me through the how get a desktop env working with gnome on this laptop? Pls help.

Do i need an internet connection to follo these steps? Or could i use the CD? I dowloaded and the recent Dont Panic ISO and installed the base system from there, will the CD contain the other packages i need.

Depending which ISO, you will probably have some of the packages on the CD.  However, GNOME was just updated so you are best updating from the internet.

Thanks! Will try to follow the manual but FYI: http://www.archlinux.org/packages/?repo=Core is what i downloaded.
