Nop, it doesn't work either as root. But It's not usb that fails in my case, it's xsane, I was just pointing something that pisses me off often about linux. I was just giving an opinion...

The upstream author of xsane recommends removing your xsane config files when upgrading.  I added this message to the most recent xsane release, but you might have missed it.

rm -rf ~/.sane/xsane

I had already done that, and it fixed one of mt problems, but I still can't scan. Scanimage -L works, and my scanner is detected, but when I try xsane, it tells me that the scanner is busy. It had worked like charm since I have it (like 1 year ago)

Re: Problem after upgrading Sane.

What the ...?

[root@localhost luisqr]# sane-find-scanner

  # No USB scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
  # you have loaded a driver for your USB host controller and have installed a
  # kernel scanner module.

But Xsane detects the scanner and it works now! Maybe my machine is possessed.

Re: Problem after upgrading Sane.

To Mr. Green:

I've checked the /etc/sane.d/gt68xx.conf file and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with my HP PSC 2175 printer-scanner. It's all right now, the scanner works fine with Xsane, it's just that I don't understand why if Xsane is just a frontend for Sane to manage the scanner, Xsane does the job and Sane doesn't even see the device.
