Cant find gnome-cups-manager

Hello,
I am trying to setup cups on arch i686 2007.08-2
I read the wiki, setup cups and the printer is seen all over the network smile
I want to install gnome-cups-manager, i have it on the other comps which are X86_64.
When I try to download it with pacman on i686, it can not be found. I tried adding the
repos. for testing and unstable to find it but its not there. Is the CUPS wiki out of dated? It is
mentioned and I have it on x86_64 does anyone know where I can find it i686?
Am I using a bad mirror?  ftp://mirrors.easynews.com/linux/archlinux/....

Thanks!

Re: Cant find gnome-cups-manager

It has been moved to unsupported (AUR).

Does this mean that it has a problem? Should I not use it... By following the wiki, I have printing on the host computer, but the others on the network can't print (though everyone can see the printer, and all users are added to lp group). I am a bit confused how to setup the config file. Default did not work, nor did adding the lines from the wiki with my corrections for IP and such. Am I missing something or the wiki is wrong... I was hoping that gnome-cups-manager would help me, as it is what I have used for that last few years. Its been years since I have had to setup cups by hand, with the help of the web-interface. Its just not working...

oh and to install from AUR i download the traball, all dependencies, cd to unpacked dir and "makepkg -i"?

Thanks! smile

Re: Cant find gnome-cups-manager

Gnome-cups-manager is really old (last update ~Sept 2005) so I guess it has been replaced by something better.  There is probably nothing too wrong with it but i can't guarantee that...

Sounds about right...

Re: Cant find gnome-cups-manager

Hi Allan,
it installed after I installed "make"...  It seems to be working fine.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Cant find gnome-cups-manager

i suggest you try system-config-printer and hal-cups-utils instead. those together (just install hal-cups-utils, it pulls system-config-printer as a dep) autodetect printers and autoconfigure them. works pretty nice.
gnome-cups-manager is totally and not maintained anymore, afaik.

Ok so i gave that a try. the config utility seems to have some issues, such as not recognizing my root or local passwords every time. And when it does, soon after gnome bug-buddy open up...
Plus printing is still not functional...  Samba cant see the printers, and i cant print directly through cups this is all so strange.

EDIT:  Ok after a reboot the printer program is working fine, who ever figured you would have to reboot a Linux box... Anyways, printing is still not working for anyone but the users on the server. I will post my cups config file on Wed., hopefully you all can see my error.  wink

Thanks for the help!
