Re: [REPO] kde4 4.0/amarok2/koffice2

Would this be stable enough for daily use? I am considering using it as I am not liking KDEmod at the moment due to various issues with 64bit...also does it provide kdm? I don't really want to install GDM or SLiM.

Re: [REPO] kde4 4.0/amarok2/koffice2

kdm is provided as kdm4. and i consider it stable enough.

Re: [REPO] kde4 4.0/amarok2/koffice2

Is 64bit updated as much as 32bit? As I can see from the repo the i686 one was last updated Dec. 8 and 64bit was last updated Nov. 6. Hmm I am seeing i686 is getting more love sad Please keep updating 64bit!

Re: [REPO] kde4 4.0/amarok2/koffice2

I have compiled all KDE4 64bit packages (plus kdewebdev4 which was missing in tardo's pkgbuilds),
but I have no place to upload them... Unless rapidshare or something wink

The only thing I probably did different is that instead of using tardo's dependency packages (like strigi, soprano, etc)
I used packages from testing repository - almost all of them are already in testing.

Tardo,
What exact changes does the above imply and to what? I tried a few things but they didn't work.

Re: [REPO] kde4 4.0/amarok2/koffice2

it sets up environment variables that KDE4 uses. just use 'cat /etc/profile.d/kde4.sh' to view the contents. I wrote a small patch to automatically source it if you call /opt/kde4/bin/startkde, so be sure you source that file before starting kde4.

Other things you can check: make sure kstartupconfig4 is in /opt/kde4/bin... if it is, make sure /opt/kde4/bin is in your path (check by using 'echo $PATH').

kdewebdev isn't usually part of the KDE release, which is why I left it out.

not sure about these speed gains with kde4. just installed it and it runs a lot slower than gnome and kde3. Guess i'll have to wait for the final release

Keep in mind that kde4 in tardo's repo is compiled with full-debug wink

Re: [REPO] kde4 4.0/amarok2/koffice2

Thanks to Mark Constable there is x86_64 repository for KDE4 RC2:

[tanis]
Server = http://jakub.markconstable.com/x86_64

Instead of building all dependency packages, I used dependencies that already are in testing repository (telepathy-qt tapioca-qt strigi soprano qimageblitz qca-2).
So you need to enable 'testing' repository too.

"qt conflicts with qt-enhanced."
My question is this:
Is this qt package the qt4 one or the qt3 one?
If it is qt3 then can I replace it with qt-enhanced afterwards?

If you're using testing, then no. Qt in testing is qt4, qt-enhanced is Qt3 and is from KDEmod.

Re: [REPO] kde4 4.0/amarok2/koffice2

I enabled testing only for kde4 installation.
Normally I have it off. Does these kde4 packages use "qt" for qt4? If thats the case then I guess I can't install it alongside kdemod, can I?

Re: [REPO] kde4 4.0/amarok2/koffice2

In testing, Qt4 package is called 'qt', and Qt3 - 'qt3'.
In extra, Qt4 is 'qt4', and Qt3 is 'qt'. That's the source of the problems.

I am using testing repository for my system, and I would have to downgrade it to compile KDE4 without testing packages.

Maybe someone knows a better way to deal with the problem? I will try modifying dependencies of those packages manually,
I think it should work...

Re: [REPO] kde4 4.0/amarok2/koffice2

check kdemod forum - there is a solution for this(you have to recompile qt3-enhanced with a minor correction to the PKGBUILD)

ghostscript-gpl is listed as a dependency of kdegraphics4 still. It should be replaced by simply ghostscript.

Re: [REPO] kde4 4.0/amarok2/koffice2

Ok.
I have done some surgery on the repository.
It now should be possible to install KDE4 RC2 x86_64 packages without testing repository.

I'm not sure if it is now possible to do the same with testing though wink

Re: [REPO] kde4 4.0/amarok2/koffice2

First up, big thanks to the Archlinux team - it is the only linux distro that works with my new Asus Core2 Duo with Nvidia 8600M GT card - even though i'm still trying to get 3D working. I just switched to x86_64 and only installed kde4 to start, my question is;
I can startx and /etc/rc.d/kdm4 start - that's all fine - only issue is when I try to type anything from the X screen the keys are not working and was wondering if i'm missing something in the xorg.conf?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

Re: [REPO] kde4 4.0/amarok2/koffice2

Hello, all.  Thanks for providing these packages!  Kde-4 (from tanis's repository, since I'm x86_64) is working great, but whenever I try to run koffice2 apps, I get "libkdeprint.so.5" not found.  (I installed koffice2 from tardo's repository).  Is there any way to get these working?  I've tried all sorts of things, but none of the x86_64 versions of kdelibs seem to have libkdeprint in them...

Error: Connection refused.

when I run pacman -Sy kde4...

EDIT: Ok it's working now smile
