Unable to read configuration file '/etc/cups/cupsd.conf'

If I go to the CUPS administration URL in firefox (127.0.0.1:631) and on the Administration tab, click "Share published printers connected to this system", and click "Change Settings", cupsd restarts in the console, yet it gives this error:

Feb 2 22:58:04 jennaluv cupsd: Unable to read configuration file '/etc/cups/cupsd.conf' - exiting!

cupsd.conf is there in it's glory though.  cupsd will only start again when I remove cupsd.conf and do a "cp cupsd.conf.default cupsd.conf".  Why doesn't this work?

Re: Unable to read configuration file '/etc/cups/cupsd.conf'

Hi synthead,

I just tried what you did and got the exact same thing you described.  I checked the cups.conf file, and one of the lines looked garbled.  So I went to the  administration tab in the web interface, I clicked the "View Error Log" button and found this:

W [03/Feb/2008:11:57:09 -0500] Unknown default authorization type ˜Þc on line 11.
E [03/Feb/2008:11:57:09 -0500] Scheduler shutting down due to program error.

Bug report time?
