Try to look on the side of Frugalware... They achieved something really excellent with their Gfpm. If it could be forked for Arch, it would be really cool.
I think someone is already working on the fork:

Hi. I think you should put text under the buttons because it's hard to understand what some arrows mean.

Indeed there are tooltips for the toolbar buttons. Try to wait few moments with the mouse cursor on the buttons and you should see the tooltip
If it's not so, let me know

I've fixed an issue with the pacman 3.1 database directory (/var/lib/pacman/sync/*).
If you encounter problems on startup and you have pacman 3.1, please, try the svn version of gtkpacman (you may use the gtkpacman-svn PKGBUILD with versionpkg)

Here you a new bugfix release for gtkpacman 2.x
Fixed many many bugs, and once again thanks to Seti
Specially fixed dependencies check, that's now recursively.
Also added one new feature: now it's possible to build and install a package through gtkpacman, just select a PKGBUILD and have your package compiled and installed (uses makepkg, of course )

Doesn't work too well here. Search for "text editor" just hangs.
Also noticed that the name version still says 2.2
EDIT: Appreciate your work though

Hi ibendiben
I don't see any problem when searching for "text editor", well it take 11 sec for my monster machine ( amd 64 3.2, 2G RAM ) to complete search but it doesn't hangs. Just wait a little longer

Well I'm waiting 5 minutes here, on a core 2 duo t7100.... and it just sits there: searching for text editor...
I call that hanging
What could be wrong? I'm running VMware and [testing] repo currently, but everything seems to work fine.

As a reference (not a fair one but still):
time -p (tupac -Ss text editor)
real 2.74
user 0.48
sys 0.23
And that gives me 55 results including AUR
Qt frontend to tupac qupac does live-searches in less then a second.

Excuse me please

You are right ibendiben, it's no fair. tupac cache database, this is why its so fast. GtkPacman's search is not really optimized and take twice as long time as pacman to print result.
Ass to the search function, the cause for this problem i probably vmware and pygtk, only a wild guess dough. I don't use vmware so I can't really test it.
