program to edit/convert subtitles?

i need a program to convert and edit subtites
i found these

http://gnome-subtitles.sourceforge.net/
but the PKGBUILD for the first is dead
and the second, while i'm compiling with makepkg it crashes...it shows me
an error about dependencies needed, but i have them all
what can i do?
anyone have installed one of this programs?

i was trying with  a sub file with jubler, but it couldn't handle it

and maybe write the error message what you get while compiling the gnome-subtitles, not just that it doesn't compile ...

You may want to try "gaupol".

ive been searching for a subtitle merger.. the movie is merged into one file, but the subtitles are 2 files.. Is there a program that could merge the 2 subtitle files into one subtitle file?

avidemux can convert vobsub (dvd subtitle images) -> srt (simple text).

afais it neither can handle vobsub files correctly nor export them to srt.
