The link bionnaki had provided lists everything that needs to be done for the fonts in any wm (including openbox) to use the lcd smoothing.  I use openbox as well and I have done nothing beyond what's in that wiki article.

Re: need some lcd font smoothing help in openbox?

first of all i am sorry for late reply coz i was out of the town.
i dont know guys what the problem is but you can see below screenshots and compare

(1)first openbox

screenshotgn0.th.png

now gnome

screenshot2hj4.th.png

gnome fonts look more smooth and rich but open box fonts look ugly. Specially "/" symbol in address bar is like zigzag in openbox.

and one more thing if i log in to gnome and logout and log in to open box then every thing is right.

any clue.

Re: need some lcd font smoothing help in openbox?

I had similar problem with fonts in openbox, in all the occasions the blame was for hinting, because if i choosed hintslight = Slight, it appeard as same as Medium. Hinslight = none made fonts look very bold , as for full, they were too thin.

My preffered combination is :
DPI - 96dpi
Smoothing - Subpixel
Hiting - Slight
Subpixel order - RGB
