I have just installed Archlinux on a p3 (coppermine) 800. It used to run debian but ofcourse that needed to change.
It's a pretty old system but that doesn't mean it's broken. Actually I doubt it because I haven't had an filesystem problem yet.
I never got these following errors on debian (which possibly used different modules. Debian's too vague to know anything certain IMO ) These show up every minute in syslog.

sda and sdb are both on 80pin cables (if that matters). there's also an sdc - without these problems!
sda is an oldie but like I said I never saw these problems on debian. Hope you can help me out.

you might see if the disk knows that its failing with smartctl from smartmontools, if it supports smart (quite likely).

Ok well I couldn't find any solution.. so I ended up regex'ing it into metalog so I can 'ignore' the problem. Bummer.
