today after over a week of not updating my arch, I noticed an error generated by pacman -Syu
that involved pam.d/su
error: the following file conflicts were found:
/etc/pam.d/su: exists in filesystem
error: the following file conflicts were found:
/bin/su: exists in filesystem
/etc/pam.d/su: exists in filesystem
/usr/man/man1/su.1.gz: exists in filesystem
su was v2.05b
which is now [after being forced]
su (coreutils) 5.2.1
Written by David MacKenzie.
Kndly direct me to the links as to why this was changed.
Off to using Peanut and Slackware, no hard feelings but I need my CD to burn, PDA and scanner to connect and arch won't do it.

there was no reason posted but i assume it is to consolidate all of the offered coreutils function under that package. why maintain two packages when you can maintain one. it is also entirely possible that coreutils source contains the actively developed su code.
if non of the developers can answer you or judd does not answer you (as he is the maintainer of that package i believe) then email him.

This is because Arch now uses the su binary from the coreutils package instead of the one from the shadow package, as it is more functional.
What do you mean no reason, Sarah? "as it is more functional" seems like a reason... not a descriptive one, but it is a reason.
