All of them can be beautiful, but if you do not want to configure them, they will all be ugly.
If you want something light and fast, try xfce. If you do not need a complete desktop DE, try fluxbox, pekwm or openbox. I recommend openbox personally.
The best idea is to try them all and judge by yourself.

Go for openbox, xcompmgr, tint and trayer (that's what I do ). It's light, fast and very pretty.
