Hi,
i've set up a fresh Arch Linux laptop but cannot connect to my router.
My notebook is a IBM X31 with an Atheros Wireless card. This card has worked under Ubuntu with the madwifi driver. My router is some Speedlink from Be Broadband and set up with WPA encryption.
I have installed madwifi and netcfg2 from testing and followed these instructions:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Network_Profiles
Unfortunately, it does not work for me.
Here is the output of the files which are important, according to the wiki page:

The wiki also asks for the output of netcfg. I guess it asks for the output of netcfg2? When I try to connect with 'netcfg2 profile' then the output, after a while, is 'profile up - Wireless association failed.'
What am I doing wrong?

for now, i skipped using netcfg2 and used the non-roaming instructions near the end of this page & setup a single profile (wifi only) for now until i investigate netcfg2. it works well so you might consider doing that then testing your netcfg2 stuff later and using this method as a backup.

Association failed means that the scripts were unable to associate with the router.
Usually, this is because of a misconfiguration, a driver bug or poor reception.
Check...
- That you are actually using WPA and not WEP (as you stated in your config)
- That the key you use is correct
- That the key is the raw passphrase, not encrypted in any way

Can you tell me what you mean with 'raw passphrase'? Googling did not help much.
What I did was puting in the key like it was stored on the router. Is that correct? If yes, what else could I do to solve the problem?
Thanks for helping.

What's inside your rc.conf?

I have exact the same problem with my t60 and atheros apapter...
btw. the non-roaming setup doesn't seem to support wpa?!
e/: even with the old netcfg i don't get it to work, somebody help?

it works for me now(with netcfg2+madwifi-wpa_supplicant), was only a range problem...

ok, i got a solution now. it was dead simple:
i never thought it would make a difference but raising the profile's timeout limit from 20 to 30 seconds did the trick. i never realized how long it took to connect. everyone having trouble connecting via netcfg2: raise the value of TIMEOUT in /etc/network.d/<profile>).
