Arch Linux minimum requirements and recommended?

I'm setting up my shop and I need to know the minimum requirements for Arch Linux. Processor speed? Hard drive space? I know that the RAM is 64MB...

Re: Arch Linux minimum requirements and recommended?

Taken from the installation guide

What You Will Need

     * a working knowledge of Linux and your system, especially your
       hardware
     * Arch Linux installation media (see the mirror list)
          + Arch Linux Install CD
     * an i686-based or x86-64 computer (PPro, Pentium 2 or higher, Athlon/Duron,
       etc. Note that AMD K6, Transmeta Crusoe, CyrixIII, and VIA-C3 are
       NOT supported.)
     * 128 MB RAM
     * some time to kill

hope that helps smile

2.2 GB on a fresh install with KDEmod for me - very minimal these days.

PS: This includes a lot of apps like OO, Gimp, Inkscape ...

My shop isn't ready yet...I've planned to open it on the 9th April, the same day Mandriva releases 2008.1. Everyone seems to be releasing in April and Mandriva is the first, so I chose that smile

Re: Arch Linux minimum requirements and recommended?

I guess absolute minimum HDD requirements would be however many MB the core>base packages take up (less than 120MB I think). That would give a fairly limited system though lol

I agree. It's misleading to put 2GB as the minimum requirement. pacman -S base is only 112MB. Not all users will be wanting to install xorg and a DE.

What about legacy drivers? I want to make sound blaster 16 or CS3* to work.

I think 2GB recommended is pretty low, my fully functional system uses almost 5GB and I don't use a large DE...

The latest C3's with the 'Nehemiah' core works just fine since they are i686

That depends on what you want to use, by using lightweight alternatives, like dillo/w3m instead of firefox, mutt instead of thunderbird, etc., I think you can get the most stuff into 2GB.
Besides that, there are other applications for Arch than just a desktop, which might need a lot less software.

I use 3.7gb (6.3gb in total minus a 2.7gb Pacman cache) and I think my desktop is fairly 'normal' (Gnome, OpenOffice, GIMP, 'standard' interweb programs). No, that doesn't include /home smile

Re: Arch Linux minimum requirements and recommended?

Seriously? I have an old box with 128 MB RAM and 1,2GHz Intel Celeron for CPU.
Will I be able to put ArchLinux on this old bastard, or should I aim for eg. Tiny Linux?
Any other alternatives?

Re: Arch Linux minimum requirements and recommended?

Just give it a go instead of bumping old threads.

You can try e.g. slitaz, antix or ttylinux.
