Re: Looking for a sound card that works well under Arch

I have owned two USB dacs (USB power + audio signal) and each of them would have a subtle buzz in the background.  I still have one, I use it with my laptop, it's convenient but it's not the best sounding thing in the world; the other one was replaced with an independently powered dac with a toslink connection and the buzzing is no more.  I could only hear the buzzing on my 16ohm Grados, but still... it's very annoying once you realize it's there.  Battery power is obviously the best way to go as far as audio quality is concerned, but a well designed power supply is a good enough compromise (for me).

I've been lucky then to just use good performing ones. I don't even get any disturbance when once for a while power the Trend one by the USB cable. I suppose that's how life is, some choices give a good first impression that stays, others don't.

Re: Looking for a sound card that works well under Arch

My sound card is an ancient Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 with digital output.
Never had any problems with it under Arch.
Just turned off integrated audio chip in my main board, and I didn't even had to change KDE settings after setting the sound card in ALSA.
