Looking for a new IRC client (not irssi)

It seems that I'm getting a nice stream of views but no replies to my previous post (can you say "TLDR"?), and since the fact that I have no IRC client is rather an urgent matter (:P) let me sum it up in a shorter post, in the hope that someone'll respond:

I find irssi hard to use, not because of the fact that it's a console client - in fact, I'd love a system where everything was accomplished by console apps and tools - but I find irssi's window management impossible to comprehend, and, therefore, work with. So, what do you recommend as a console IRC client with "sane" window management? I just want the ability to tell windows that they cannot "move", and I want a client that doesn't go insane from a window management perspective if I start joining or leaving networks regularly.

Try to make your topic at least a little bit relevant to your post. "UGH... I need pointers [...] - Smaller post" is completely meaningless.

Great reason to double post!

Anyway, until someone who uses a CLI IRC client other than irssi comes along, you can look here for a nice list of irc clients available. Look at the ones supporting linux:

Thanks for the list... I'd spent a while pouring over it before posting. And I know that about editing the first post; the thing was that I didn't know what to call the post, since my brain was effectively "broken". I still don't, heh.

But I've gone back to irssi now... I have no idea if I'll be able to like it or if I'll explode again. So this discussion is still open!

Here, let me suggest a title for you: "Alternative to irssi"
Or maybe: "Recommend a CLI irc client (but not irssi)"
Or even: "Need urgent help"

I'll let you figure out which one of the above three would be inappropriate

I use weechat.  I love it, does everything I need.  Not so sure how window management works; I keep each chat room/server info log in its own "buffer" or "window" and switch between them with ALT+left or ALT+right

+1 for weechat, it's my IRC client of choice, even though I don't IRC that much. I loved it exactly for its window management capabilities (especially the ability to split the screen however you like).

I see. I tried WeeChat out on my server, and I'm sad to say that even without having connected to any servers, its performance seemed sluggish, despite running on a 500MHz P3 with 320MB RAM (and of course Arch). Just an IRCd was running.

So.... is WC actually "slow" that way?

By "slow" I mean that I'd have an 80ms or so delay between new input lines, and scrolling seemed really unresponsive. Maybe WC has some kind of slowdown factor going on...? Btw, I checked the scripts folder and there was nothing there (of course).

As for me it's quite snappy. Couldn't spot any difference in speed between weechat and irssi.
