NetworkManager doesn't autoconnect eth1

When i log into Gnome and nm-applet comes up, NetworkManager should connect my ethernet automatically, but it doesn't.

I found something via Google:

Quick thing to check; do you have the connection set to autoconnect?
Check in GConf using gconf-editor, drill down
to /system/networking/connections, find your ethernet connection, and
ensure that it's autoconnected.  For example, my ethernet connection is
at:

/system/networking/connections/2/connection

and you're looking for the 'autoconnect' key.

The problem is there is no /system/networking here. Shouldn't NetworkManager create it?

$ gconftool-2 --all-dirs /system
 /system/storage
 /system/dns_sd
 /system/proxy
 /system/gstreamer
 /system/http_proxy
 /system/smb

On the other hand the NetworkManager Spec says a connection is on autoconnect by default.
