Gift (p2p) does not start

I was looking for p2p client (havent tried any p2p since www.esnips.com was good enough, but it is almost dead now after introduction of new music sharing policy). My search ended at gift (to which ares can be plugged in and I have heard, ares is a huge database). I installed gift with the help of wiki and when trying to start "giftd" I'm getting this error:

giftd: error while loading shared libraries: libltdl.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I guess this is a bug n someone has reported it here http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10094?pr … sort2=desc

Now, the question is that is there any workaround to get gift working or any other app that would connect to many networks (ares, gnutella, etc) and provide a good alternative of gift.

One more thing, gift package is outdated and gift development seems to have stopped. Any comment on that.

Re: Gift (p2p) does not start

a simple and dirty workaround is to link to the available lib. or maybe to rebuild the pkg
warning, you may get errors of existing files in the future,
there is also always a possibility of unstable apps, don't ask,, iver never experienced it myself

/usr/lib/libltdl.so.?.?.? /usr/lib/libltdl.so.3

thats really dirty and might become a pain in the butt if you forget what you did 6 months down the line (and hence unable to reverse) and things start breaking.

One "alternative" is to rebuild gift using ABS. You simply have a few libraries out of sync.

I did build gift using abs and it did ran but unfortunately, apollon says its connecting to the networks forever. I googled that issue and it seems this issue of gift not being able to connect is pervasive.

Is mldonkey a better option than gift or frostwire?
